An extensive training program is required for Master Gardener volunteers. Lake and Ashtabula counties currently train interns together and faculty come from The OSU and other extensions offices.

The OSU Lake County Master Gardener Volunteers announce their next "Meet Us in the Garden" talk begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1 at the Mentor Public Library Main Branch, 8215 Mentor Ave., Mentor.

The topic is Attracting Birds: All birds need three things: food, shelter and water. The more you offer, the more attractive your yard will be and the more birds you will see. Learn easy ways to enhance your landscape to attract birds.

Q&A afterward. Brochures for these monthly talks through Nov. will be available this session at the library and local community centers.

It’s FREE, but registration is required beginning 2 weeks prior to the talk. Go to mentorpl.org, call 1-440-255-8811, or stop by the library.

Welcome to the 2026 class of Master Gardener Volunteers!!! After a 10 week period of lectures, hands on demos, and of course exams, all provided by Lake County ANR Ann Chanon, we look forward to all advancing from "intern" to official Master Gardener Volunteers.
