The Year I Hit That Year

The Year I Hit That Year I am at an age that has followed me for years—the age my mom never got past. What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

This is the Year I Hit “That Year.” Instead of fearing it, I’m choosing to live it bigger - be brave, take the leap, and chase dreams.

May was about BIG leaps and new beginnings. Moral of the story - be brave. JUMP. See what, and who, catches you!

I just spent a week working with EmpowHer Pickleball down in Turks and Caicos. I pushed out of my comfort zone teaching at Huron. Landed in a social media / content creator role for a pro pickleball player and her amazing company. Not going to lie, it felt pretty cool when my first reel (and my first Facebook Live) were put out on their main social media sites. Celebrate with me, friends... celebrate the whole idea of pushing yourself to do new things in new places and to keep CHALLENGING yourself and GROWING. Click on the reel and give it some love... Much more to follow later! https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1E343Gk1Po/

One thing I’m learning during this year… when you finally take the leap, life has a way of meeting you there.

Two months ago, I retired from a career I still loved and stepped into a season of reinvention and choosing differently.

And less than 12 HOURS later, this incredible opportunity found me. Literally, it felt like it fell from the sky and landed in my lap like a gift from the gods... and now it's FINALLY here.

This Saturday, I’ll be heading to Turks & Caicos with the incredible women of EmpowHER Pickleball (alongside the amazing Kas Gehrke and her team) — not as a participant, but working alongside them, helping capture the energy, storytelling, branding, and experience of the retreat through social media content. I will be bringing the hype, the fun, and documenting it all for every woman there!

And honestly… the more I sit with it, the more I realize: This isn’t accidental. This can't just be a coincidence...

Because empowerment, encouragement, coaching, motivation, connection, adventure, helping people believe in themselves and step into bigger versions of their lives… That’s not just what this company is about. That’s also what my entire career and life has been about.

For years, I poured that EXACT energy into students, athletes, friends, and the people around me... And now, somehow, after taking one (slightly terrifying) leap into the unknown… I’ve landed in a space that reflects all of those same values back to me in an entirely new way.

That feels pretty intentional and absolutely incredible!

I’m profoundly grateful to Kas and the entire EmpowHER team for inviting me into this experience, and I absolutely cannot wait to help tell the story of what these women are building together.

If you want to check out what they’re creating, give them a follow:

Buckle up! This energy is about to be FIRE! Can't wait to get down there with the EmpowHer family and I can't wait to meet 80 or so new friends! 💛🏓🌴

For the past several years, I’ve spent time around Mother’s Day hiking in Hocking Hills in honor of my mom 💛

As part of The Year I Hit “That Year” — and in recognition of May being Melanoma Awareness Month — I’m launching a one-month fundraiser called Miles That Matter, raising money and awareness for melanoma in honor of my mom (and every family impacted by melanoma).

This weekend’s hike is where it begins. Over the next month, I’ll be hiking, walking, biking, and putting meaningful miles behind this cause while continuing to share the bigger journey all year long. If you’d like to support the fundraiser or follow along, I’d love to have you with me. Click on the link below to donate! 💛

If you can't donate, feel free to support in other ways: comment here with stories of your mom, of your experience with cancer, with your own hikes or bikes in solidarity, or with stories of my mom (if you knew her). I appreciate my village so much.

We're both HOME. A week of recovery and recuperation and it’s all hitting me!

4,500 miles.
11 states.
10 national parks.
2 weeks in the car.

And somehow… that’s not what this trip was about.

It was about a 43-year friendship.
It was about showing my best friend the country and getting her to Grant.
It was about saying yes—over and over again—when it would have been easier to stay comfortable in our lives at home.

Doing something like this with someone who has known you that long…
who has seen every version of you…
who can laugh with you, push you, and call you out (and apparently label you “aggressively friendly” 😄)…

—that’s a gift I don’t take lightly.

This trip was about realizing how much life is still out there… waiting.

There were moments that felt big and unforgettable—
standing in places that didn’t feel real.

And there were quieter moments—
in the car, in the in-between, in the laughter—
that somehow mattered just as much.

When I started this year, I said I wanted to live differently.
More aware.
More present.
More willing to take chances.

This trip was that. Planned. Chosen. And I think that’s the part I’ll carry with me. Because this year isn’t about doing everything.

It’s about not missing the things that matter most... and its about stepping into the people and things who see me and choose me right back.

💛 — we really did all of this. Thank you for showing up and showing out.

Lastly, I want to send a huge thank you to the people who were actively cheering us on. You’ll never understand what every comment, like, and love meant to us along the way. Thank you!

This weekend the calendar shifts to May… I will be moving on to the second chapter in this year long journey of mine. There are some BIG, PROUD Mama Bear celebration moments coming…. This will be an emotional weekend! I am bracing for what’s next…

Buckling Up!

Bucket List Instructions: Step One: Make the actual list. Step Two: start knocking items off of it (faster)! Unlocked Antelope Canyon this week and couldn’t be more excited! Amazing. I would love it if some of you would post your own bucket list experiences here for me to see! Let’s inspire eachother to get out there!
