West Kentucky Chess

The 2024 US Membership chess tournament in Paducah was a success today. We had about 20 new players from all over the region compete with about 20 returning players. None of the K3 or K5 teams in the region were ready for this one so the next scholastic event will probably be doubled in size. I was in charge of the Learning Section and the kids were great!

Special thanks to John Romang and the Innovation Hub for letting us use the art room and the Seminar room, and for making the awards. And a special thanks to the Speed Chess Store for being on site!

Better late than never…sorry if you have a player that’s not aware of this event.

The Purchase Chess Foundation has been hosting this event for a few years for any and all K-12 scholastic chess players in the region. It’s four rounds of Swiss Style rated chess and the entry fee includes a year-long membership to the US Chess Federation to allow for many rated tournament options throughout the year.
