Many of you may know, but most probably don’t, that our assistant principal, Mrs. Natalie Wilson, had twin boys at the end of July! We are so excited for Mrs. Wilson and her growing family! We are also excited that she is getting to take some time off to spend with the babies! She is planning on coming back to school after Fall Break in October!

We will miss Mrs. Wilson greatly this first 9 weeks, however, we are lucky to have a great support in her place while she is gone! Mr. Brent Buchanan will be filling in for Mrs. WIlson during her time away. Mr. Buchanan is a McCracken County legend and has worked as a teacher, coach, principal, and district leader for many years prior to his retirement a couple of years ago! His impact has been felt great and wide across all of McCracken County, including with myself. I consider Mr. Buchanan to be my mentor as a principal, and I am excited that our students and staff will get to spend some time with him this fall! I know they will all become a little better version of themselves because of it!

So when you see Mr. Buchanan around RIS, make sure to welcome him into the Greyhound family!

Help us introduce the final two additions to our crew for the 2026-2027 school year, Ms. Abby Hamilton and Mrs. Ashley Malone!

Ms. Hamilton will be joining our special education team as an assistant this school year and will be working daily with in the classrooms with students and teachers! Abby is a Reidland alum and has worked in the Reidland schools over the past few years. We are excited that she get to continue to be a Greyhound this school year!

Mrs. Ashley will be joining our nursing staff and will be working at RIS and throughout the district. She has previously served as a school nurse in Graves count and we are excited to add her smiling face to our hallways!

Please give both of these ladies a warm welcome as they round out our 2026-2027 RIS crew!

We are excited about our Back-To-School Night event tomorrow night, Tuesday August 4th, at RIS! You can come and meet your teachers, drop off supplies, pay activity fees, sign up for 21st Century, visit our new FRYSC, meet with the nurse, get car tags, deposit lunch money for extras in the cafeteria, and see all of your friends!!!

Everyone will need to enter through the glass doors in front of the gym tomorrow. Look for the inflatable red arch, you won't be able to miss it!

In order to prevent overcrowding at any one time tomorrow night and to provide for more time with each family to talk with their student's teachers we have asked that families come at the following times:

A-G from 4:00 to 4:45

H-N from 5:00 to 5:45

O-Z from 6:00 to 6:45

*If you are unable to attend at the time above for your student, that is ok you can visit at a time that works best for your family.

Help us welcome our art teacher for the 26/27 school year, Ms. Anna Pham! Anna will be serving as the art teacher for both RIS and RMS! She is a McCracken County High School alumni and a recent graduate from Murray State University. She will be a familiar face to many of our 4th graders because she did her student teaching with Mr. Green at RES last year! We are excited about the engaging lessons that she has in store for our students and we can't wait to see the amazing art work that our students produce! Welcome to the crew Anna!!!

We are now officially 1 week away from our first day of school! It's an exciting time and I can already feel the buzz in the hallways as teacher and staff are working hard to get their classrooms and spaces ready for the student's return! I also know that it can be a nervous time, especially for our new 4th grade students making the transition to RIS. So I wanted to share some important back to school information that might answer a lot of the questions you have about what this school year is going to look like at RIS! RIS has a last minute opening for a special needs instructional assistant for the upcoming school year! We are looking for a loving and hard working individual who enjoys helping students learn and grow and wants to be a part of a great school team! This position will be working alongside other teachers in the classroom and helping students in small groups with academics throughout the building. We are just over 1 week away from the first day of school and we want to take this opportunity to welcome two new staff members to the crew that will be working with students in both Reidland Intermediate School and Reidland Middle School!

First Mrs. Michelle Smith will be serving as our new RIS/RMS school nurse! Mrs. Michelle is a familiar face in Reidland and is a proud Greyhound parent. She has been working in the nursing field for many years and is ready to serve our students full time. We are excited for to have her join the team!

Next we have Mrs. Crystal Ramsey! Crystal is also a proud Greyhound parent and will be joining Exceptional Students classroom as an instructional assistant! We are excited about the energy and love that she will bring with her for our students every day!

We loved seeing so many Reidland students and families out this afternoon while delivering ice cream! We got to see and talk to so many past, current, and future students that it put us a little behind schedule! So we want to send a huge thank you to everyone that waited outside for us to come around! It’s going to be an amazing year at RIS!!! It’s a pretty special place to be!!!
