I believe no one steps foot inside our dojo without God putting them there for a reason. He’s in the little details everywhere I look. From how we started, to questioning my whys, to Him making me see the whys every single day. He doesn’t make mistakes. Even when I questioned it.

Middle schoolers. I’ve been there, lived it, got through it. You will too. It’s a tough transitional age. There is so much going on with them at this age. The moodiness, the rapid growth and change, figuring out who they are, why things are the way they are, and who is truly a friend to them. Their brains are rewiring to be independent from you. We set boundaries and they cross them. They get grounded and don’t understand what is so wrong. Y’all, the truth is, this isn’t your middle schooler being difficult. They’re having a hard time. Be the calm in their storm and help them regulate those emotions. We can’t help them if we too are upset. Walk away and let it go for a while. Then, come back to it and calmly discuss what’s wrong. Give them a place to work out their feelings and exercise. They’ll feel better, and they’ll learn how to regulate themselves.

Moms and Dads won’t always be around to protect them. Giving our daughters the knowledge, confidence and power to defend themselves is the best way to protect them.

Practice is suppose to be hard. It’s suppose to make you sweat and make you tired. The results make you proud of yourself and give you confidence. 🥰 Keep going. Keep pushing.

After the storms last night, many of us are probably dragging today. 😆 But this girl, she will still put a smile on her face and show up. She will walk through the doors, hug me, tell me about her day, and take care of business. Teaching our kids to work through the storms in our life helps prepare them for the bigger storms as an adult. We can’t shield our kids from every heartache or every hiccup in life. But we can mentally and emotionally prepare them to cope with it and be healthy, happy adults. That’s the goal!

5 year olds are a lot of fun! Some of them are ready to start school and go to Kindergarten and some need another year to mature. Boys and girls at this age can vary in development. Boys often get complaints from adults that they can’t sit still, focus, and lack impulse control. We are tasked with changing them, discipline them, make them
Focus. When the truth is, it just takes time. Boys this age are not wired to sit still, and focus on things very long. We know to pick our battles. 😉 Moving means they’re learning. Eventually, we start to see them sit still a little longer, focus a little better, have better self control, and be able to multi task better. It doesn’t happen over night because we can’t push them to mature any faster than their bodies allow. There is a reason other countries don’t start school at age 5. 😉 So, take a deep breath and enjoy your rambunctious and fun little guy! You’re going to blink and he will be driving fast cars and driving you crazy 🤪 in other ways.
