Wonder, joy, and challenge at Village School this week!
1-2: First graders built their stamina during silent reading, practicing sustained focus and developing the habits that will help them grow into independent readers.
3-4: Kindergarteners marvel at their latest creations in the Visual Arts Studio! Inspired by the imaginative worlds of Artist of the Year Hayao Miyazaki, students created three-dimensional kites of their own.
5-6: Sixth graders are reading Matched by Ally Condie as part of their current novel study, and this week, students took the lead by running their own read-aloud groups. Students are practicing analyzing figurative language, identifying central ideas, examining how an author’s point of view shapes a text, and, of course, strengthening their ability to cite textual evidence.
7: Math takes shape in fifth grade as students construct three-dimensional piñatas while exploring volume.
8-9: Dr. B steps into the third-grade classroom for a listening challenge! During the activity, students listen closely as a set of directions is read aloud, sentence by sentence, revealing something magical along the way: a mysterious new animal called a “Triangle-ope” and a visitor from outer space named “B-5.” The challenge puts careful listening and attention to detail to the test as students see how closely their finished creations resemble one another.
10: First graders are in the ideation phase of their Monster Unit, beginning with sketches as they imagine and design their own original creatures. Next, they’ll bring their designs into Wixie before transforming their ideas once again into three-dimensional monsters using air-dry clay.
