Great day Monday October 13, Joelle Rosser and John Openshaw drove to Monterey with their labs to visit the DeLeo lab at the Hopkins Marine Station, a crew of nearly 20 in total, an amazing opportunity to talk about disease ecology in a more informal context, while exploring the Marine Station and taking a nice walk to Lovers' Point, eat a sandwich there, and come back under the rain, super fun!

“We can predict which villages will have the most malaria cases, even when these villages are only a few miles apart,” said study lead author Julie Pourtois, a PhD student in De Leo Lab. “These predictions could help distribute limited health care resources where they are most needed, which is particularly valuable in countries with limited access to health care.”

Forecasting malaria | Stanford News The study integrates climate, land use, and socioeconomic data to explain and predict malaria dynamics at the village level. The approach could inform health care practitioners and make control strategies more efficient and cost-effective.
