Quilter Sara Lyons took the blue ribbon in the small appliqued quilt category at the Monterey County Fair with this beautiful piece celebrating Salinas Valley farmworkers. "The Salinas Valley and surrounding area grows most of the strawberries, lettuce and broccoli for the country, as well as artichokes, blackberries, and garlic. I was lucky to spend my professional career as a physician, working with the kind and generous people who work in the fields, tending and harvesting the food we eat," Sara said. "I made this quilt to thank them for the important work they do to feed us all with the healthy and delicious food we are lucky enough to enjoy."

Join us for the MPQG general meeting on Monday September 14th, at the Pacific Grove Community Center, 515 Junipero Street. Our special guest quilt artist is Jeff Warner, who is coming from Long Beach, CA, to share his lecture, "The Shape of Bargello." Jeff has been designing his own quilts since 1991and is known for his kaleidoscope bargello style. Social time starts at 6:30 pm and the meeting/lecture starts promptly at 7:00 pm.
