🌿✨ As our 8th grade year comes to a close, we are honored to share a reflection from one of our students as they look back on their journey at MBCS.

Their words speak to something at the heart of Waldorf education: the experience of growing up within a learning community that is built on continuity, relationships, and a deep sense of belonging.

Over time, students are not only developing academic skills, but also discovering their interests, building confidence, and forming lasting connections with teachers and peers who have walked alongside them through the years.

We are grateful for this reflection, and for all of the moments that shape a school experience into something that feels like home. 💛

🌼🎨🔬🎻📚 In Waldorf education, first grade is a beautiful bridge between early childhood and the academic journey ahead.

Children begin exploring reading, writing, mathematics, and other subjects, but the way they encounter these ideas is just as important as the content itself. Through stories, movement, art, and hands-on experiences, abstract concepts become something children can see, feel, and understand. 🌈

At MBCS, we believe learning is most powerful when it engages the whole child: head, heart, and hands. First grade is a time of discovery, where curiosity is nurtured and a strong foundation for future learning begins to take root.

🌱 🦋 🌽 At MBCS, the garden is a place where students learn through direct experience: tending the soil, observing seasonal changes, caring for living things, and witnessing the patience and wonder of growth.

In Waldorf education, nature is woven into the learning experience. Through gardening, children develop curiosity, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of the living world around them. 🥬👩‍🌾🍅

These experiences help nurture not only knowledge, but also reverence, stewardship, and a lifelong appreciation for the Earth.

🌊🐚🌅🌺 As we welcome the warmth and light of summer, we reflect on the importance of seasonal rhythms in Waldorf education.

Throughout the year, children are invited to notice the changing world around them through stories, songs, celebrations, nature experiences, and classroom traditions. These rhythms help students build a deeper awareness of the natural world and their place within it. 🌞

Seasonal verses, like this beautiful poem by Christian Morgenstern, offer moments of wonder and reflection, connecting children to the cycles of the Earth and the gifts each season brings.

At MBCS, we honor the wisdom of these rhythms by allowing children the time and space to observe, experience, and grow alongside the world around them.

🌿✨ In Waldorf education, kindergarten is a time of laying strong roots. While children are developing important academic foundations, these skills are woven naturally into the experiences of the day through stories, songs, movement, nature, art, and practical work.

Through painting, baking, gardening, handwork, and imaginative play, children strengthen concentration, creativity, confidence, and social connection. These experiences support the development of the whole child and prepare students for the academic journey ahead.

At MBCS, we honor the wisdom of childhood by allowing children the time and space to grow, explore, and discover the joy of learning. 🌱

🌿✨Some of life's most meaningful lessons are learned beneath an open sky. In Waldorf education, nature is not separate from the classroom. It is an extension of it.

While hiking a trail or observing the changing seasons students learn through direct experience. They discover the interconnectedness of the natural world, strengthen their powers of observation, and develop confidence as they meet new challenges with curiosity and resilience.

Time in nature also invites children to move their bodies, awaken their senses, and cultivate a quiet sense of wonder. These experiences nurture their creativity and perseverance. It help them build a lifelong relationship with the world around them.

At MBCS, we believe some of the richest learning happens when students step beyond four walls and into the living landscape, where every trail, tree, pebble, insect, and horizon offers an opportunity to grow. 💚

At MBCS, we believe learning should be experiential. It is about transformation and growth. We teach the whole child, heart, head, and hands. We are creating an environment that is more nurturing of the whole human being, which yields higher academic achievement AND cultivates a lifelong love of learning.

We provide an all-encompassing, nurturing, and holistic approach to education. We offer a non-competitive and respectful environment that nurtures the whole child.

When you peek into the Handwork classroom at MBCS, it might look like the students are simply knitting or sewing, but there's really nothing simple about it.

Students are:

🧵Using critical thinking and problem-solving
🧵Learning fractions
🧵Strengthening fine motor skills
🧵Crossing the midline
🧵Improving memory
🧵Implementing hand-eye coordination
🧵Establishing strong mobility and dexterity

What research has recently caught up to, Waldorf Schools have been practicing for over 100 years.

We are so proud of the rich curriculum we offer here on our campus of the beautiful work created by our students. 💚
