SKC Life Sciences hosted another Day of Discovery science symposium. Had an excellent mix of chemistry-, biochemistry-, and biology-based talks and posters from: SKC, MSU-Bozeman, UoM-Missoula, Univ of Lethbridge, and the NIAID-Rocky Mountain Labs.

Korra Poitra, from the Crow Reservation is pursuing her Nursing degree through MSU-Bozeman, joined the Life Sciences for a paid summer internship testing how components in plastic (eg, bisphenols) alter cellular outcomes in breast cancer cell. She did a fantastic job, in 4-weeks she validated a gene that appears to be aberrantly regulated with bisphenol treatment.

Today is BioDiesel day, OChem students have achieved separation and quality product based on FTIR analysis. Does anyone have access to a sacraficial diesel-powered golf cart or mini-bike!?

SKC Life Sciences received a grant to obtain an X-Ray Diffractor (XRD) used to define the crystal structure of pharmaceuticals & compounds.

Great turnout for a Day of Discovery Symposium this past Saturday. The Life Sciences hosted nearly 40 people with 4 talks and 25 undergrad and a few high school posters. Had people for MSU, UoM, RML and a group from Univ of Lethbridge in Canada making it an international affair!
