SKC Native Youth Community Project: College and Career Pathways

SKC Native Youth Community Project: College and Career Pathways NYCP Pathways is a program designed to increase the college and career readiness of tribal youth, and build community capacity to meet this goal.

Salish Kootenai College, the tribal college of the Flathead Indian Reservation, proposes to increase the college and career readiness of Native American students, grades 8-12 through a Native Youth Community Project. The Project aims to increase local education agencies and college capacity to serve Native American students along a college/career preparation path.

Attention seniors and families of seniors! RHS is hosting another FAFSA night on April 14th. Dinner and snacks will be provided along with a $50 gift card for the first 10 families to attend.

Our Spring FAFSA Night is next week! All seniors planning to attend college/trade school in the fall must complete the FAFSA application. If you haven't, this is an awesome chance to get it done! We'll have specialists here to help from the American Indian College Fund, Salish Kootenai College, and Upward Bound. Dinner will be provided! Reach out to Jennifer Cheff, RHS School Counselor, with questions.

๐Ÿ‘ Shoutout to RHS Science teacher Jedd Tougas on some of his implementation of Indigenous perspectives into the classroom!
Chemistry students connected conservation of mass to traditional practices like smoking meats, brain tanning, and traditional food preparation. AP Environmental Science students are designing farms while researching sustainable agriculture, including Indigenous practices. In Earth Science, students explored how the Mission Mountains were formed while learning about CSKT connections to the mountains and the Mission Mountain Wilderness.

Thank you for creating meaningful, place-based learning opportunities for our students! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ“š

Jedd Tougas received his Masters in Integrated Indigenous Curriculum from Salish Kootenai College.
