Camille Ferraro (1953-2020) was born and raised in South Ozone Park, where she dedicated 45 years to teaching at the Catholic school of St. Mary Gate of Heaven, her parish. Beginning her teaching career in 1975, Ferraro positively influenced the educational and spiritual growth of students across four decades up until her retirement in 2020. Her reach extended beyond the classroom, as she was also an active member of her parish, baked cakes with her mother for community events and bereavement services, and attended religious and social celebrations to support her students and their families. Ms. Ferraro is remembered by her community as a dedicated, pious, and kind teacher and lifelong friend to many generations of South Ozone residents.
Despite her untimely passing only weeks after her retirement, Ferraro's legacy as a
pillar of her community will be carried forth by her parish, family and friends, and the droves of students she inspired to lead by example as she did.

Camille Ferraro Camille Ferraro (1953-2020) nació y se crió en South Ozone Park, donde dedicó 45 años a enseñar en la escuela católica de St. Mary Gate of Heaven, su parroquia. Sra. Ferraro comenzó su carrera docente en 1975 e influyó positivamente en el crecimiento educativo y espiritual de los estudiantes a lo largo de cuatro décadas hasta su jubilación en 2020. Our grammar school building has served the parish and its mission of educating children and forming them in the Catholic faith for over 65 years. In the coming months, the New York City Board of Education will begin renting the building to use as an education center.
Before they modify and re-furnish the interior, we would like to give parishioners and school alumni one last chance to wander the classrooms, stroll the halls and call to mind the good memories. Perhaps you may want to bring along your children, grandchildren or friends to show them where you grew up, tell some stories and take some pictures. All are welcome for a Final Visit.

El edificio de nuestra escuela primaria ha servido a la parroquia y su misión de educar a los niños y formarlos en la fe católica durante más de 65 años. En los próximos meses, la Junta de Educación de la Ciudad de Nueva York comenzará a alquilar el edificio para usarlo como centro educativo.
Antes de que modifiquen y vuelvan a amueblar el interior, nos gustaría darles a los feligreses y ex alumnos de la escuela una última oportunidad de recorrer las aulas, pasear por los pasillos y recordar los buenos recuerdos. Camille Ferraro was a graduate of The Mary Louis Academy, Class of 1971.
She was deeply committed to Catholic education and understood and valued its purpose. Contributions in her name can be made to the Joseph M. Lewinger Fund for Student Life. This fund serves to assist any student at TMLA who is suddenly struck with a critical moment in their lives, such as the death of a parent, loss of their home or catastrophic illness, or any type of financial hardship.
