Missed Band in 6th Grade? Here's Your Second Chance!

D.A. Smith Middle School is excited to introduce Second Chance Band, a new opportunity for current 7th and 8th-grade students who didn't have the opportunity to join band in 6th grade.

Students will learn an instrument, make new friends, perform in concerts, and become part of our award-winning band program. No experience is required, just a willingness to learn and have fun!

It's never too late to start your musical journey.

We are excited to share our Fall Marching Band schedule. Please remember that all dates, times, and events are subject to change as the season progresses. We encourage all students and families to plan vacations, appointments, and other activities around the band schedule whenever possible.

Our regular rehearsal schedule will be Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00 PM–8:00 PM. Please note that some Monday rehearsals may be moved to Tuesday due to holidays or school calendar conflicts.

Auxiliary members will have additional rehearsals and schedule adjustments that differ from the full band schedule. Specific information will be communicated by auxiliary staff.

We are looking forward to an exciting season and can't wait to get started!

Trail mix
Individual peanut butters
Pretzels
Crackers
Pop tarts

Update on instrument rental night: We hope everyone is having a fantastic summer! We’re excited to welcome our next class of Beginning Band students, which means it's time to start the search for an instrument! We have 2 instrument selection nights from reputable companies coming to our school this year!

Note: It is okay to buy used instruments depending on the brand/condition. This process can be tricky, but Mr. Isom is here to help guide you through this process. Please DO NOT buy a used instrument without running the brand/condition by Mr. Isom to avoid scams.

Finally, if you are a rising 6th grader, don't forget to complete your pre-registration!

Last week, the band had the opportunity to share music with members of our community through performances at local senior care facilities. One of the most memorable moments came when a resident shared that he used to play on a drumline and played along with the group. Moments like these remind us that music has the power to connect generations and bring people together in meaningful ways.
