In June, we celebrated a great year together and the start of summer, while saying goodbye to our second graders and retiring Mrs. Brunken in a Farewell Parade.

If you are viewing this post, I will sneak in this reminder: please use the summer months to advance your child’s learning by talking about the experiences you are sharing, reading books together often, bringing books along for your child to read on outings (whether sitting the beach or waiting in a doctor’s office), and encouraging your child to keep a journal of special events like a family trip. Ms. Kaufman’s English Language Learners participated in a thematic unit about birds. They read about birds, observed them through nature cams, and wrote about their learning. To bridge the home-school connection, they also created bird houses to take home to continue observing and learning about birds this summer with their very own binoculars and activity booklet. We wish them a bird-tastic summer of learning!

Theodore Roosevelt students, staff, and families celebrated this year’s 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. Ms. Murphy led us all in a sing-along which capped off a month in which students learned about our country’s history and what makes it special. Coming up soon: our 250th Anniversary Picnic!
