Since 2012, Legacy Flight Academy® has been creating opportunities for young people to experience aviation, expand what they believe is possible, and see themselves in the future of this industry.

On Saturday, September 12, 2026, we’re celebrating that work and investing in what comes next at the Legacy Flight Academy® Inaugural Scholarship Gala at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC.

For more than a decade, LFA scholars have stepped into cockpits, flown aircraft, learned from aviation professionals, and been exposed to pathways in aviation, aerospace, and STEM.

Becoming a Pilot Takes More Than Flying

When most people think about becoming a pilot, they think about airplanes, airports, and flying through the clouds.

But did you know that one of the most important skills for aspiring pilots is financial planning?

Pilots use math, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making every step of the way, both in the cockpit and throughout their training journey. From calculating flight time and fuel requirements to creating a training budget and setting long-term career goals, STEM skills play a major role in aviation success.

At Legacy Flight Academy®, we help students explore not only the excitement of aviation careers but also the planning and preparation required to achieve their goals. Understanding the costs of flight training, researching scholarships, creating budgets, and developing a long-term plan are all part of the journey.

Aviation teaches students valuable life skills including discipline, responsibility, goal setting, and financial literacy.

Every pilot starts with a dream. The key is turning that dream into a plan.
