Six of our members just enjoyed our annual trip to Knott's Berry Farm. As usual, another very long day from 0600 Sat to 0200 Sun. Yippie!! We were lucky that the rain missed us. But over the past few years I've come to realize that there is an advantage to a less than perfect weather forecast...it scares the less brave away from the amusement park. So less lines for rides all day long. The weather was actually very pleasant all day and evening. Our early BBQ lunch at Wilderness Park in Downey was perfect. We spent just enough time there for good food, weather, and a Leadership Challenge. Then we packed up and were on our way to Knott's, just a few miles further down the road. The rides were great as they always are. For our "Knott's parking lot dinner" later near evening, we warmed up lots of nice treats that the cadets brought from home. Our cook, Green Rope Espinoza, performed his magic again. Our double propane stove did a great job but we will need four burners next time as the cadets did such a good job supplying the potluck food we were juggling pots and pans to heat up everything. We had hot chicken, rice, tamales, mac&cheese, and rolls. Plus lots of chips, water, and juicies that we carried in backpacks thru-out the day. We could hear many people passing by our little encampment, pleasantly commenting on our dinner setup of tables and chairs and stove. We also enjoyed hot chocolate and marshmellows. This was a very nice refreshing break back at the van that refueled us for the rest of the night with more rides. This was our best trip to Knott's yet. As a standard for EAGLE Corps events, cadets experienced memorable real-life leadership training during our day. Our processes are the same whether we have 6 cadets attending or 60. Our Leader of the Day was Cadet Andrew Franco who kept us on schedule and did an excellent job in managing our group during a 20-hour day of BBQ's, setup and cleanup, rides, maneuvering around Knott's, and documenting the day's events, without any drama, but rather, with lots of fun and laughs.
