On August 4, CDR and several community oriented agencies participated in the National Night Out event at Del Sol Park in La Colonia neighborhood in Oxnard.

CDR’s programs and services collaborated with a pair of info booths filled with giveaways and activities. This included staff from Resource & Referral/Child Care Program Department, and Head Start.

The event was free and featured food, arts & crafts, and lots of raffle prizes.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, and more caring places to live and play. It also provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states. Neighborhoods host block parties, cookouts and various other events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits, and more.

Thank you to the historic and beautiful neighborhood of La Colonia for inviting us to the event. See you next year. ❤️

Early Head Start Child Care Partnership (EHS-CCP) was excited to welcome child care partnership providers to its Pre-Service gathering on Saturday, July 25, kicking off an amazing start to the 2026–2027 school year.

The day was packed with meaningful trainings, program updates, collaboration, fun times, and a celebration of the amazing work providers do for children and families. The theme of the gathering was Movie Theater Day. This year’s theme brought big smiles to everyone in attendance. Providers came dressed in their favorite pajamas and enjoyed a fun group builder activity where they shared their favorite snack and why it’s their favorite. It was a great way to connect, learn, and laugh while building momentum for a successful year.

CDR’s Mariela Guido, Disabilities Unit Coordinator, delivered a powerful presentation on neurodiversity and inclusion, supported by a Home Visitor team member who is also a parent and advocate of a child with autism. Her shared experiences and insights deeply resonated with providers.

Providers also received a Community Care Licensing refresher training, and CDR’s own Marlene Arambula, EHS Education Coordinator, presented an education training on on-going assessment of children, including reviewing the data from the past year. Arambula also introduced the newest version of the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) 2025 tool. DRDP is a comprehensive assessment tool used by early childhood educators to observe and document children's developmental progress.

CDR's Brenda Paniagua, Family Support Specialist for EHS-CCP, provided information on immunization requirements and the importance of establishing Family Smart Goals. The day concluded with the assistance from Jessy Palomino, CDR’s Desktop Support Technician, who assisted providers with password resets and Child Plus needs. Child Care Plus is a data management software designed specifically for Head Start and Early Head Start programs. It helps child care agencies track enrollment, monitor attendance, health, and manage federal compliance.

CDR staff is grateful for the dedication, energy, and partnership of all the providers—thank you for all you do to support young children and their families.

In observance of Juneteenth, our offices will be closed Friday, June 19. We will reopen Monday, June 22.

What is Juneteenth?

The history of this celebration begins back on January 1, 1863, when President Lincoln passed the Emancipation Proclamation, outlawing slavery in the United States. The news of this monumental decision spread slowly and many remained enslaved until the news reached the people, two-and-a-half years later.

On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived at Galveston, Texas to proclaim the freedom of all slaves in the Lone Star State. His General Order Number 3 begins, “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.”

Galveston was the site of the first public reading of the proclamation in the south, as well as the first community to celebrate the holiday now known as Juneteenth, named for the date of the reading of the historic Proclamation.

For more historical information about Juneteenth, and about this year’s celebration in  scheduled for Saturday, June 20 at Downtown Plaza Park, please visit and juneteenthoxnard.org
