Today is recognized as Flag Day! It is a day to honor and celebrate the adoption of the American flag. On this day in 1777, the Continental Congress officially adopted the "Stars and Stripes" as the official flag of the United States.

Congratulations to our Brother, Major S. “Joseph” Winslow! We are so proud of you for continuously striving for a higher standard.

Congratulations to our 2026 Awards Recipients! 🏅

The Colonel John W. Thomason, Jr. Award was established in memory of this decorated combat officer known for his artwork illustrating Marines in World War I, China and Latin America. It is given for excellence in the fine or applied arts, including photography, in depicting the historic or contemporary Marine Corps.

This year’s recipient is Major S. “Joseph” Winslow, USMC (Ret) for “Through the Front Door (Fallujah, Iraq), the first of three panels memorializing the 2nd Battle of Fallujah. This monumental composition represents a Marine rifle squad in action as Major Winslow witnessed it during Operation Phantom Fury. This work is in the permanent Marine Corps Fine Art Collection, National Museum of the Marine Corps.
