As an alternative to the binge drinking that will be happening in Uptown Oxford today for "Green Beer Day", the Film Studies program is offering this sober-minded alternative: a screening of the Billy Wilder film "The Lost Weekend" (1945), starring Ray Milland as an alcoholic writer whose relapse during a four day bender shows the unsettling consequences of the disease. One of the greatest films of the Classical Hollywood era, with a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Join us for a celebration of "National Silent Movie Day" on Wednesday, September 29th! We will present a special outdoor screening of the slapstick comedy classic "Safety Last" (1923), starring Harold Lloyd. The screening will be projected onto a building in the Arts Quad, behind Shriver, at 7 pm. Hosted by Professors Kerry Hegarty, Andy Rice, and Annie Dell'Aria. Free and open to the public.
