This page is for members, alumni, and friends of the Trial Advocacy Board! The Trial Advocacy Board is one of the School of Law's three advocacy boards. A few years ago the trial team was housed under the Moot Court Board, but due to the growing interest and competitions the decision to form the Trial Advocacy Board was made. Today, our main focus is on building courtroom skills necessary to jury trials. The members of the Trial Advocacy Board learn how to develop a winning case theory, make persuasive opening statements and closing arguments, examine expert and lay witnesses, and how to effectively utilize the rules of evidence prior to and during trial. The board competes in mock trial competitions around the nation, and provides trial litigation instruction and competition opportunities for all students at the School of Law. Board members are selected through internal competitions hosted each spring. Interested 1Ls are invited to compete and a few students are extended membership.

We are so happy to acknowledge these advocates for their participation in The Crimson Cup: Hosted by Harvard Law School. Madi Seymour (3L), Jen Bagby (3L), Blayre Smith (2L), and Doug Reynolds (2L) all traveled to Cambridge Massachusetts and participated in this mock trial competition from April 14th-16th.

This team says they loved interacting with law schools from all over the country. They learned so much from their time at the competition and are excited to bring new skills home to Mississippi! Great job team!

Over this past week, the Trial Advocacy Board at Ole Miss Law held our new member competition. This year, we welcomed 14 new board members!

A special congratulations goes to Jonathan Amlong for winning Best Advocate for the Prosecution and Holly Merriam for winning Best Advocate for Defense.

Another congratulations goes to these students, who were named the top 6 advocates of the new member competition: Minnie Blackman, Ethan Barnes, Jonathan Amlong, Lucas Schumm, Holly Merriam, & Maggie Crain.

We are so excited to have all of our new advocates on the board! Thank you all for a great week.

Congratulations to Mia Fontenot (3L), Josh Clardy (3L), Todd Conklin Jr. (3L), & Chauncey Mullins (3L) for competing in the John L. Costello National Criminal Law Trial Advocacy competition this past weekend. Our advocates competed at George Mason University Antonin Scalia School of Law on Thursday & Friday, then at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia in Washington DC.

A special congratulations goes to our very own Chair of the board, Todd Conklin Jr. who received an award for Best Advocate. Great job to this team! We are so proud of you.

Shout out to our advocates (3L), (2L), .ankrom (2L), and (3L) for participating in the TYLA Regional competition this past weekend! This year, the competition was held in Memphis at the Shelby County Courthouse. Great job to this team!

Last week, the University of Mississippi School of Law Trial Advocacy Board members competed in the annual Steen Reynolds and Dalehite Trial Competition hosted by Steen Dalehite and Pace, LLP. This internal competition consisted of 20 board members competing in two-man teams in a civil jury trial format before a lawyer/judge. To conclude the competition, the #1 plaintiff team and the #1 defense team advanced to the final round, which was held on Friday.

Mia Fontenot and Josh Clardy advanced as the #1 plaintiff team, and Carly Chinn and Steffanie Pasquale advanced as the #1 defense team. We are excited and proud to announce Carly Chinn and Steffanie Pasquale as the overall winners of the competition!!!

We would like to extend our appreciation to Steen Dalehite and Pace, LLP for hosting this tournament, the Honorable Jane Virden for being the presiding judge in the final round, all other judges throughout the week, and to all of our amazing board members who dedicated countless hours of preparation to make this competition a success.

Finally, we wish Steffanie Pasquale, Mia Fontenot, and Josh Clardy good luck as both teams will represent the law school at the National Trial Competition in the Spring, and to Carly Chinn taking the MS Bar Exam in February!
