We have more award-winning projects to share 👏👏👏 Syed Kushol (M.Arch.'26) and Yihan Zhao (B.A. Arch. '25) recently took home Awards of Merit in the AIA Ohio Foundation 2026 Student Design Competition. Syed's project proposes a new
neighborhood model that integrates affordable living, flexible workspaces, and shared social infrastructure within a cohesive, sustainable, urban framework. He recently joined Corgan in Dallas as a project specialist. Yihan's project, Buddhist Cultural Exhibition Center, is designed as a cultural and exhibition space inspired by the traditional Chinese idea of “a new view at every step,” creating layered relationships between architecture and landscape. Yihan is currently a graduate student at University of Pennsylvania. Not only did the two recent graduates receive the AIA Foundation honor, they also received a cash award. Congratulations!!

And the fantastic news continues! Congratulations to ID student Ava Widrig, recipient of a $30,000 Angelo Donghia Foundation Senior Scholarship. She is one of only 15 students nationwide to receive this prestigious award. She submitted her second-year library project titled "Caspian," subtitled "where every story creates a ripple." Ava's project was inspired by the movement of rolling water and symbolized the way stories, ideas, and cultures spread outward through human connection. Please join us in congratulating Ava on receiving such a coveted award! 👏👏👏

Keep those hands clapping! Architizer recently released its 2026 "A+List," and Paul Lukez Architecture (PLA) is named to this elite group. Paul Lukez FAIA, is an alumnus of our program (BED'81) then M.I.T. (M Arch'85). He later taught at M.I.T.'99-'07, while establishing his office in Boston. He served as our Graduate Thesis Respondent in '09, sponsored three alumni traveling studios '96-'98, and has employed our graduates. Thanks, Professor Craig Hinrichs, for sharing this info! And congratulations to Paul Lukez and PLA!

Congratulations to ID student Piper Campbell! She took home the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Ohio South/Kentucky Chapter gold award in the "2026 Design Excellence Award for Student Residential Project" and "2026 Design Excellence Award for Student Commercial Project." The awards were presented at the chapter's recent annual meeting at the Werner House in Columbus.

ARC+ID convocation! Chair Liz Martin-Malikian welcomed new and returning students and faculty on Monday afternoon at the annual event. She also announced several scholarship recipients and introduced the student orgs, including the new Women in Architecture and Interior Design and returning NOMAS (National Organization of Minority Architecture Students). Thanks, AIAS, for providing a wonderful meal!

Way to go, Westcott studio! 👏👏👏 The master plan studies conducted by last fall's Westcott Design-Build Studio will be presented on Wednesday to the Westcott Foundation Board, The Westcott House Capital Campaign Development Team, and internationally-recognized collaborating design architects Bohlin, Cywinski, Jackson -- including project architect and MU Architecture Alumni Bill James. Professor John Reynolds, who directed the studio, will make the presentation at the Heritage Center in Springfield, Ohio. An exhibition of the studio's Fall 2025 Westcott Master Plan Studies is planned for this Fall at the Westcott House.
