🛩️ End of an Era: More VORs Heading to the "Chopping Block"

The ground-based navigation landscape is changing fast! As part of the VOR MON (Minimum Operational Network) program, the FAA has proposed decommissioning three major Southeast nav-aids in December 2026:

📍 Charlotte, NC (CLT)
📍 Foothills, SC (ODF)
📍 Holston Mountain, TN (HMV)

As of early this year, 212 VORs have already been decommissioned, with 88 more currently slated for removal.

The FAA is moving toward a satellite-based National Airspace System. While it's more efficient, there's definitely some nostalgia in seeing these iconic "bowling pins" go dark.

Due to very strong winds which are forecasted to continue to worsen through the afternoon, we are canceling this year's Pumpkin Drop. This is on of our favorite events to hold with the community so this decision is made with regret, but in the best interest of everyone's safety. Thank you to all of you who came out in hope of joining us- we hope to see you next year!!!
