Below are images of the statement that AAA-FSA sent out to members on Tuesday (6/4/2020).

George Floyd’s name is only the latest to join a list of black names that is already too long. We stand in solidarity with the black members of our community, and we pledge that we will collaborate with our black colleagues and amplify the black voices in our community.

Our goal is to advocate for Asian, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, and Desi (APIDA) faculty and staff at Miami University. As such, we have developed a stigma statement in light of the increase in COVID-19 fueled incidents of verbal harassment, name-calling, and attacks against APIDA community members across the United States of America. This stigma statement is an effort to raise our profile on campus and to act as a liaison to the University regarding matters of concern to our community, in this case, stigma and prejudice driven by the news that the virus was first detected in China. We hope that this stigma statement will invite other Miami organizations and the community at large to foster a greater understanding of APIDA issues and concerns. Please feel free to share this stigma statement with your department, office, or center.
