As the summer ends, we’re proud to celebrate our students as they return from their summer internships.

Current student Jonathan Hayward interned with Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and participated in the Ronald Reagan Academy for Civic Education and Democracy. With the support of the Lott Institute, Jonathan was able to gain firsthand experience in federal government, conduct legislative research, assist Mississippi constituents, and deepen his understanding of the policymaking process.

We are proud to support Jonathan as he puts his leadership skills into action and look forward to seeing all he accomplishes in the future!

As we say goodbye to Summer 2026, we can’t help but pause and say THANK YOU!

Thank you to our incredible high school students, dedicated community partners, undergraduate student leaders, alumni across Mississippi and Washington, D.C., inspiring guest speakers, and, most importantly, our outstanding Institute staff. Your passion, commitment, and support are what make Lott 9 and Lott 12 the dynamic, life-changing experiences they are.

The Lott Institute was proud to sponsor Taste of the South in Washington, D.C. this past weekend. It was a wonderful evening connecting with so many of our incredible alumni and giving back to Mississippi's chosen charity of the year, The Bean Path. There’s nothing better than seeing the lasting impact of the Lott Institute community and the relationships that continue to grow long after graduation.

Our Lott Rising 12th Graders have returned from an incredible trip to Washington, D.C.! As an extension of their Character and Leadership class, students had the unique opportunity to meet with Congressman Michael Guest, Chairman of the House Committee on Ethics, and learn firsthand about leadership and public service. During their visit, they also explored historic landmarks throughout the nation’s capital and connected with current Lott students and alumni, making the experience both educational and inspiring.

Future leaders in action! ⭐

Forty-one rising ninth graders from Mississippi, Tennessee, and Florida joined us for our Rising 9th Graders Program, where they stepped into the role of lawmakers through hands-on legislative simulations. Students explored public policy issues, researched solutions, drafted and debated legislation, and gained firsthand insight into the legislative process and how government works.

We are proud to celebrate their hard work, curiosity, and commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.

A special thank-you to Representative Jeffrey Hulum III for serving as our guest judge for the annual Capitol Cup Award for Best Overall Legislation. We are grateful for his support and encouragement of the next generation of civic leaders! 🎉

Our current Lott Institute students interning in Washington DC enjoyed attending the 35th annual Mississippi on the Mall, where they had the chance to meet and network with alumni of our program. Seeing current students connect with former students and leaders in DC is a reminder of the lasting impact of the Lott Institute network. We’re proud of these students and excited to see where their journeys lead next!

Today, we celebrate every memory, milestone, and moment that brought the Class of 2026 here. Graduation may mark the end of this chapter, but it’s only the beginning of all the incredible things ahead.

A special thank you to Lott alum Caleb Herod for returning as our Medaling Ceremony keynote speaker and sharing words of encouragement with our graduates.

We are so proud of each of you member of the Class of 2026 and can’t wait to see where life takes you next. Once a Lottie, always a Lottie!
