Okay, Oxford MS residents, whose career pathway will be posted on this billboard in August?

When we started scheduling weekly speakers for Workforce Wednesdays in August of 2023, we had to really sell the idea to get people to visit. (We also had to sell it to students to come to the library!!) Now, WFW has become a staple of Oxford High School, and we've even had waiting lists for speakers. We never dreamed that we would have to tell people we were booked for an entire semester. That's what happens when you refuse to give up on an idea that you KNOW will benefit students.

We will promote this program more as we approach the Fall '26 semester, but we already have a few spots taken. My point? DON'T WAIT!! We only have about 30 available Wednesdays in an entire school year. Get in touch with me to get your name on the list. My email is [email protected].

Workforce Wednesday - April 29th

The end of every school year is a great time for many reasons, but the conclusion of certain things can be quite sad. Having to say goodbye to Workforce Wednesdays until August can really get us down. At least we went out with a bang!!

Our final guest for Workforce Wednesday for the ’25-’26 year was Dr. Joel Amidon, Professor of Teacher Education in the University of Mississippi’s School of Education. He has held several leadership positions in mathematics education/mathematics teacher education, including Vice President of Communications and Outreach for the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, and President of the Mississippi Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators. He is the host or co-host of several podcasts dedicated to improving teaching—Amidon Planet, Road to Better Teaching with Dr. Ann Monroe, and the Teaching Math Teaching podcast with Dusty Jones, Jen Wolfe, and Eva Thanheiser.

Dr. Amidon prepares teachers of mathematics, mentors doctoral students, and conducts research exploring what it means to teach mathematics and mathematics methods as an expression of agape—an unconditional act of love. His work focuses on developing teaching practices that expand opportunities for all learners, address barriers to success, and foster classrooms where every student can thrive.

Thanks for wrapping us up on a high note, Dr. Amidon!!

This week’s guest for Workforce Wednesday was Dr. Tess Lefmann, associate professor of social work in the School of Applied Sciences here at Ole Miss. She received her Ph.D. in social work from the University of Tennessee in 2014. She dove much deeper into this profession and answered our questions about how to become a social worker, and why it can be such a rewarding career.

Thank you so much for the investment in our students, Dr. Lefmann!

In a town that is well known for its art and artists, why not have one of its very best visit for WFW?

This week’s guest for Workforce Wednesday was Mr. Earl Dismuke, a sculpture artist here in Oxford. Although many of his pieces are staples of our town, examples of his work have also been included in several international and national exhibitions, including but not limited to, the Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition, New Orleans, LA, The Walter Anderson Museum, Ocean Springs, MS, Scope Basel in Basel, Switzerland, Lima, Peru, several gallery and museum shows, and private collections.

Thanks for giving your time to us this week, Mr. Dismuke!
