One Small Change: Keep a recycling bin somewhere convenient.

Make recycling the easy choice by putting a small bin somewhere you actually use it, like your home office, laundry room, garage, or next to your trash can.

The easier it is to recycle, the more likely you are to do it.
It doesn't have to be complicated. One small change at home can help keep more materials out of the landfill.

Do your part. Start small.

From organic waste to usable compost, right here in Shiawassee County!

Just a few weeks ago, we celebrated the grand opening of Great Lakes Resource Recovery's state-of-the-art organics composting operation in Vernon Township. Today, we're getting a look at the next step in the process as the compost piles are turned!

Here's what makes this process so exciting: what traditionally can take nearly a year to complete, GLRR's process can turn organic waste into clean, usable compost in just 8 weeks.

The organic material cooks for about 6 weeks, with the piles being turned to help the process along. By the 8-week mark, the material is ready as a finished compost product that can be put to use right here in our region.

It's a great example of what can happen when local businesses and community partners work together to find new ways to recover resources and keep valuable organic material out of the landfill.

We'll be sharing more behind the scenes as this process continues. There's a lot happening right here in Shiawassee County!

Exciting Members Helping Members Highlight!

This is where the work of the The Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce and Shiawassee Recycles intersect.

Resourceful Recycling and Shattuck Advertising & Trophies / Edwards Signs first met at a Chamber AM. That introduction grew into a business relationship, and recently Shattuck Advertising and Trophies / Edwards Signs partnered with Resourceful Recycling to place a single stream recycling dumpster at its office.

Employees can now recycle materials from the workplace and are also invited to bring recyclable materials from home, creating a meaningful employee benefit while helping divert more material from the landfill.

There is another local connection, too! The recycling container itself was manufactured right here in Shiawassee County by Universal Handling Equipment Owosso.

For less than a latte a day, employees can offer a benefit their employees value. Employees gain easier access to recycling. More materials diverted from the landfill. And more dollars and relationships stay connected to our local economy.

This is members helping members, regional commerce, and sustainability all working together.

If your business is interested in exploring recycling options for your workplace or employees please reach out to Resourceful Recycling at [email protected].
