Wrapping up our Senior Projects series with one more spotlight!

Last up: Sophie Winter '26 🦾
For her Senior Project, Sophie set out to explore research careers in biomedical engineering, reaching out to principal investigators at top-tier labs in the area before connecting with the Haptics and Medical Robotics (HAMR) Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University. Working alongside prosthetic hand researchers, Sophie sat in on lab meetings and picked up standard electrical engineering skills, including how to work with sEMG sensors that read electrical signals from muscles. The lab was so impressed that they invited her to stay on through the summer!

Thanks for following along as we looked back on our seniors stepping beyond the classroom to explore, grow, and give back! 🧡🖤🦅

Last up in our look back at Greatest Good in action: a project two classes helped bring to life.

Students in Honors Computer Science designed and built a new website for the Red Devils, a nonprofit providing critical financial support to breast cancer patients throughout Maryland during treatment. The project drew inspiration from Advanced Economics students, whose GGM Marketing challenge helped shape the site’s design. The site officially launched this summer as a fresh, user-friendly home for the Red Devils’ mission, making it easier than ever for the community to learn, get involved, and support patients in treatment.

We can’t wait to see how this year’s students do the greatest possible amount of good. 🧡

Next up in the Senior Project spotlight is Shivank Gupta '26! 💻

For his Senior Project, Shivank partnered with Dr. Arik Brown, designing and coding a website for his engineering consulting business and reviewing the MATLAB code in his textbook to make sure all graphs generated error-free. As a future engineering physics major, Shivank used the project as a chance to learn MATLAB from scratch while sharpening his coding and presentation skills along the way.

"I enjoyed working with Dr. Arik Brown and am grateful for this experience, as it gave me the opportunity to learn more about MATLAB as well as HTML and CSS," Shivank said.

Watch our next Greatest Good spotlight: McDonogh's third graders. Through a partnership with the Maryland Zoo's Signature Species Conservation Program, students spent the year studying endangered animals—learning why they're at risk and how to protect them. It started with a field trip to the Zoo, followed by months of research, and culminated in the joy of sharing what they learned with visitors at the Zoo's Party for the Planet, an Earth Day event celebrating wildlife. 🐧🐘🦧🐼

Keeping the Senior Projects spotlight going!

Next up: Niara Sherrod '26 🐾
For her Senior Project, Niara spent time shadowing vets and techs at Northwind Animal Hospital, driven by her love for animals and a desire for clarity as she looks toward a college major in animal behavior. The experience gave her a behind-the-scenes look at the daily work of those who care for animals professionally—and as an added bonus, she got to do it all at the hospital where her own dog is a patient.

"I have many interests, and though I plan to major in animal behavior in college, I wanted to explore fields relating to animals more thoroughly," Niara said. "I also have a dog—who goes to Northwind!—and I figured this opportunity would allow me to understand her better as well."
