Just a reminder. The IBMA bootcamp is the weekend of September 25th. Please register by Wednesday, Sept. 22.

Because of the overwhelming popularity of last year’s virtual bootcamp, IBMA is going to run a virtual boot amp again during the weekend of September 25th , 2021. The IBMA bootcamp does not replace or count for official IB training, but is designed to provide teachers new to your building or subject an overview of the nuts and bolts or learning/teaching, IB philosophies, and organization of their courses. Experienced and recommended facilitators from around the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond will be sharing their expertise in three two-hour sessions over the course of the weekend on September 25th. Facilitators and participants will work together to determine the most optimal schedule.

Cost to register each teacher is $150. On the IBMA website (see below) are overviews of what to expect in the sessions as well as a list of all of the sessions offered at each level.

The first virtual IBMA Coordinators meeting will be held via Zoom on October 9 at 10:30. More information will come in the next weeks, but please save this time as it will be an excellent professional development experience.

Heather Michael (who was scheduled to be the speaker at our cancelled March meeting) will be speaking on "ATL in Action" across the continuum.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning is an integral and yet elusive aspect of our IB teaching practice...only compounded as we teach in a variety of hybrid models during the pandemic. ATL can feel like an add-on in an already impossible teaching context, but it also has the potential to capture students and foster conditions for great engagement and success. The purpose of this session is to explore ATL in both theory and practice. Time will be devoted to unpacking ATL, thinking about what it looks like when it comes alive in the classroom. Participants will leave with a better sense of ATL, practical tips for how to plan with ATL in mind, and tangible examples of what it looks like in action.

Dr. Heather Michael is an IB coordinator, TOK teacher and researcher in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. She is an experienced IB Workshop leader and presenter at IB conferences. Heather holds a doctorate from Columbia University in curriculum and teaching and her research areas focus on equitable access to IB programs. In addition to her teaching experience at the DP level, Heather has also worked across the United States as a middle school literacy consultant.
