As another fair comes to a close, I've found myself thinking about what our county fair truly means.
Our Gasconade County Fair isn't one of the big livestock shows where exhibitors travel from competition to competition. For many of our youth, this is the only livestock show they'll ever participate in. For many others, it's the very first time they've ever stepped into a show ring with an animal they've worked hard to care for and prepare.
They may never compete at a state or national show. This may be their one opportunity to experience the excitement, the nerves, the pride, and the sense of accomplishment that comes from exhibiting livestock.
Because of that, every interaction matters.
A smile, a word of encouragement, a little patience, or a compliment can make all the difference. We may not remember every class winner years from now, but these young people will remember how they were treated and how they felt.
Let's continue to make our county fair a place where every exhibitor—whether they're a seasoned showman or leading an animal into the ring for the very first time—feels welcomed, respected, encouraged, and proud of what they've accomplished.
The ribbons will eventually be tucked away, but the memories we help create can last a lifetime. Let's make sure they're good ones.

As the Youth Program Associate for Gasconade County 4-H, I couldn't be more proud of our Community Club members.
During the busy days of the County Fair, I watched you proudly exhibit your projects, volunteer your time, and interact with fairgoers with kindness, respect, and confidence. Time and time again, you stepped up to help wherever you were needed.
There truly is no other group of young people quite like you. Your willingness to serve others and the way you carry yourselves makes you stand out from the rest.
Nothing makes me prouder than hearing people tell me how amazing our Gasconade County 4-H members are. Thank you for representing 4-H with such outstanding character. You are the future, and I am incredibly proud to be your YPA.
