“ANGEL WELSH TO SPEAK AT TOASTMASTERS MEETING”

As a regular feature of our Toastmasters Meetings, on the third Monday of each month we invite a guest speaker. In addition to her work with the homeless, Angel is a part of the Morning Crew on WBKR with Chad Benningfield.

Our June 20th meeting will feature guest speaker Angel Welsh who has worked with homeless shelters in the community for more than a decade.
She recently announced the upcoming opening of “My Sister’s Keeper,” an emergency shelter for women and children. The new women’s shelter will be a 20-bed facility offering a safe place in time of crisis.
The goal is for the facility to eventually become a 24-hour shelter.

Our next Toastmasters meeting will be June 20th at 6:00pm.

Our next guest speaker is Jordan Wilson, the Development Director for Friends of Sinners. FOS is a Christ-centered residential substance recovery program focusing on the restoration and reconciliation of men and women to Christ through biblical truths, accountability and like skills.

Jordan has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in drug rehabilitation administration. In addition, he recently published his book, “Jesus>Drugs.” Since being hired at Friends of Sinners, Jordan has been writing his book that covers a journey through drug addiction and eventual freedom.

Wilson was formerly a client at the facility as he battled drug addiction before obtaining his sobriety in 2016 and working on his career in public relations.

Our next guest speaker, Ms. Abby Shelton will speak to our group at 6pm on March 21st at 6pm CST to discuss the Northwest Development Project.

Ms. Shelton has been the community development director for the City of Owensboro since 2015. She manages the Department of Housing and Urban Development entitlement grants for the city through housing and economic development programs.

Prior to her role as community development director, she worked in the capacities of assistant to the city manager / community coordinator, public information / community representative and assistant to Mayor Ron Payne. Before going to work for the City, she was a community development coordinator for the Green River Area Development District.

Our first guest speaker will be Bob Whitmer.

Currently Bob Whitmer is a City Manager at Public Life Foundation of Owensboro based in Owensboro, Kentucky. Previously, Bob was the Executive Director of Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport He went to work for the city as personnel assistant and safety director in 1985. In 1988, he moved to David Hocker & Associates Inc. as director of human resources before returning to city government as assistant city manager in 1992. In 2003, Whitmer became city manager, serving in that post until early 2008.

We will be meeting in person at Third Baptist Church an also on Zoom.
