Cathedral Preschool: Still Here! Celebrating 40 Years Next School Year!

You may have read or heard about plans for Owensboro Catholic Schools to start a preschool in 2026-27 at St. Pius X. This does not affect Cathedral Preschool: we will continue to be a ministry of St. Stephen Cathedral Parish and will keep on providing 5-STAR quality early childhood education in the space we’ve been since 1986.

Just wanted to reassure anyone who may have been confused upon hearing that news. We are not moving, nor are we closing.

We are of course thrilled for this new option for area preschoolers. Given the excellent education OCS has provided for 75 years, we are confident the OCS Preschool will likewise build a program that delivers high-quality education in a faith-filled environment.

For Cathedral Preschool's Lenten service project, families donated towels, washcloths, and household cleaning supplies to the St. Gerard Home, which is our school's "neighbor" across the church parking lot. Each class delivered a wagon full of items on Monday and Tuesday of Holy Week. The children liked seeing "the house where the mamas and babies are" and giving them things they need while they're living there. In mid-April, preschool families will provide a spring cleanup for the front yard. The children are getting a concrete lesson in "loving your neighbor."

Believe it or not, registration for the 2026-27 school year - our 40th! - is right around the corner!

If you are interested in dropping in and taking a look around, meeting our teachers, and seeing what we’re all about, we will be hosting an open house on Tuesday, 1/27, from 6-7 pm.

As you may have heard, the St. Stephen Cathedral parish offices experienced a small structure fire overnight on January 11. While Cathedral Preschool is able to conduct classes as usual, we have been impacted in our phone and computer capabilities.

We cannot receive calls on our office phones [(270)926-1652]. However, we are able to access phone messages that are left on voicemail through our email. So if you need to reach us, please leave a message and we will get back in touch with you. Or, feel free to contact us via email [[email protected]].

If you are a parent of a current student, please utilize Brightwheel messaging for communication as usual. We can fully access and operate Brightwheel because it is a web-based application.
