🩺✨ Future Nurses Inspiring Future Learners! ✨🩺

Our first-semester ABSN students recently had the opportunity to visit Camp Curiosity at Tamarack Elementary in partnership with Daviess County Public Schools (DCPS)!

Camp Curiosity is a summer enrichment program designed to support young English Language Learners through engaging, hands-on experiences that promote creativity, exploration, language development, and a love of learning. The program provides students with meaningful opportunities to discover new concepts in a fun and supportive environment.

As part of their NURS 314 Population Health course, our nursing students brought health education to life for Pre-K and Kindergarten learners through an interactive lesson focused on hand hygiene and the five senses. While using creative teaching strategies including glitter glue to demonstrate the spread of germs, squishies and sensory objects to explore touch, mystery scents to investigate smell, and music and movement to reinforce learning - students transformed important health concepts into memorable learning experiences.

These activities not only helped children develop healthy habits and gain a better understanding of how their bodies interact with the world around them, but also allowed our nursing students to strengthen their skills in health promotion, patient education, communication, and culturally responsive care.

We are proud of our ABSN students for sharing their knowledge, creativity, and compassion while making learning both meaningful and fun. Experiences like these demonstrate the power of community partnerships and the important role nurses play in promoting health across the lifespan.

We greatly appreciate our continued partnership with Camp Curiosity, Tamarack Elementary, and DCPS. Opportunities like these provide valuable learning experiences for both our nursing students and the children they serve.

Calling all students applying for the upper division portion UL's pre-licensure to BSN program! UL School of Nursing, Owensboro Extension will hold a virtual UD Application Workshop on April 24, 3 - 4 p.m. CST. This workshop is designed for those students interested in applying to the upper division program in Owensboro for Fall 2026.

Once applicants RSVP, they will receive the link to the Teams meeting emailed to them the morning of the workshop.
During these workshops, I'll review the application process with students, including what to write in the 500-word application essay, where to submit your Castlebranch background check, when to submit official transcripts, as well as discuss next steps submitting your application. Please feel free to bring your laptop and something to write with as you prepare to submit your application.

Our nursing students took their learning beyond the classroom and into the community 💉🩺
At the Pitino Shelter, they led health promotion teaching sessions focused on practical, real-life topics—helping individuals better understand ways to care for their physical and mental health. From education on infection prevention and chronic disease prevention to sharing resources and answering questions, our students stepped up with compassion, professionalism, and heart ❤️🖤
Experiences like this are what nursing is all about—meeting people where they are, building trust, and making a meaningful impact. We are so proud of the way they represented our program and cared for others today! 👏

Ms. Stiff is officially Dr. Stiff!!! 🩺🎓

Our UofL Nursing cohort got to celebrate her HUGE accomplishment—so well deserved! ❤️✨

Our 3rd semester nursing students facilitated art therapy during their mental health clinical, helping create a safe space where individuals could express emotions that aren’t always easy to put into words. It was powerful to see how creativity fostered connection, reflection, and healing.
So proud of the compassion and care they continue to bring into their clinical experiences! 🫶
