🦅 Swoop’s Story 🦅

In 1992, Rejoice Christian School began with just 40 students in K3–K5 as a ministry of First Free Will Baptist Church. At the heart of those early days was our founder, Arilla Karlak, who faithfully taught students about Jesus and built a foundation rooted in faith and Christian education. 💙

Two years later, first grade was added, followed by another grade each year as the school continued to grow. In 1994, the eagle was chosen as the Rejoice mascot along with the mantra: “Rise Above!” Your journey is upward, so keep your eyes fixed on the things above. ✨

Throughout Scripture, eagles symbolize strength, renewal, swiftness, and protection. One of the most well-known verses, Isaiah 40:31, reminds us: “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles…”

The mascot was named “Swoop” in 2021, and the eagle is more than a mascot. He represents the spirit, mission, and faith-filled legacy of Rejoice Christian School. 🦅

🎨 Fun Fact:
Did you know RCS staff member Steve Blesch is the artist who drew the eagle used in the current RC logo? Mr. Blesch is a talented artist and carpenter who enjoys drawing and painting in his spare time, when he’s not spending time with his grandkids! 💙💛
