OPS Families, this is a friendly reminder that there will be no school March 16-23. March 16-20 is Spring Break and March 23 is a District Collaboration Day.

Owasso Public Schools will resume in-person instruction on Friday, January 30.

Please continue to exercise caution on the neighborhood streets and take it slow in parking lots tomorrow. Additionally, please remind your students to calmly walk, not run, on sidewalks when entering and exiting buildings, as isolated slick spots may still remain. We know that they’ll be excited, but safety first!

If your student rides a bus, please be aware that buses may run a few minutes behind as our drivers take it slow on the neighborhood streets. Grace will be extended to all families in the morning as students make their way to school.

Sunshine and temperatures that climbed into the 40s today resulted in more progress toward melting the snowpacked neighborhood streets in Owasso. Unfortunately, a large portion of these streets remain mostly covered in snow and now slush, which will freeze again tonight and create slick conditions similar to what we experienced this morning.

With that in mind, we will continue with Distance Learning for Thursday, January 29. We will reassess road conditions again tomorrow afternoon and communicate plans for Friday as soon as possible.

The safety and security of students and staff are our top priority and focus as we make decisions about opening campuses. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of Owasso Public Schools.

Due to the continued slick conditions on our neighborhood streets and rural roads, OPS will continue with Distance Learning on Wednesday, January 28. We will reassess tomorrow afternoon and communicate plans for Thursday as soon as possible.

While the main roadways in Owasso are in great shape, many neighborhood streets and rural roads remain mostly covered in snow and ice. Melted snow that does not dry during the day turns to ice each night, where it remains in the morning. This refreezing makes these areas difficult for student walkers, student drivers, and school buses.

The safety and security of students and staff are always our top priority. OPS buses transport more than 5,000 students to and from school each day, so the ability to safely navigate a school bus through all parts of the District weighs heavily in our decision making.

Due to inclement weather and road conditions, Owasso Public Schools will move to distance learning on Monday, January 26 & Tuesday, January 27.

The Operations Team will begin clearing sidewalks and parking lots at school sites and district facilities as soon as possible. However, due to the significant snowfall in Owasso and the continued cold temperatures in the forecast, it will take time for school sites and surrounding road conditions to become safe for normal school operations to resume.

We will share an update about Wednesday’s operations on Tuesday afternoon.

📆 Calendar Reminder

There will be no school on January 19-20. January 19 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and January 20 is a Teacher Professional Development Day.

Families, this is a reminder that there will be no school and District offices will be closed for Winter Break, Dec. 22-Jan. 5. The second semester will begin on January 6, 2026.
