D'Alerta Fencing Academy

Its been too long without communicating with all of you. Hurricane Ian dealt a severe blow to the State of Florida and to our fencing Academy. The facility where we fenced was flooded for days under about 4 ft. of water. 95% of our fencing equipment was ruined and thrown away. Through the generosity of our division chairperson and vice chair we have been enjoying the use of electric equipment on Saturdays. An article is being written about our current situation in the hope that we identify some organization or facility that will offer to help provide us a new home for our fencing club. Wish us good luck.

We are enjoying Fencing at Riverside facility again! We have also had some new folks express interest in joining us …. Contact Maestro directly for details on trying out this great sport!

Sunshine State games Fencing! June 15 and 16 ... up in Alachua this year. Register by May 27. Talk to Maestro if you have questions about competing.

Fencing AwardsGold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be awarded to first, second, and third place finishers in each class. At the discretion of the Sport Director additional awards may be given.

2 of the top 8 epeeists in UF's 53rd Annual Green Gator tournament were from D'Alerta! Paul came in 3rd and Akshaya came in at 8th out of 51 competitors in the Senior Mixed Epee event ... and Paul earned his "B" rating!

Congratulations to Michael and Paul for great epee skills in the Jax Jab 2019 competition! Michael won first place in the D & Under Senior Mixed Epee event (1 out of 16)! And in the Senior Mixed Epee event, Paul won 2nd place and Michael won 3rd (out of 16) ... which earned Michael a "C" rating!

Great to see everyone during our Holiday Party, and to meet some of our newer fencer families! Hope those of you who celebrate Christmas had a merry one!

Maestro has told folks in class, but just in case here is a reminder that there is NO fencing tonight (Wednesday), and also NO fencing next Wednesday (Jan. 2)...but the Thursdays and Saturdays are on the normal times.

Every year in October our Riverside facility shuts down to us for approximately 2 weeks so the city of Oviedo can set up and host its Haunted House. Here is the revised schedule for the last half of October:

Wednesday October 17 - NO Fencing
Thursday October 18 - Fencing at the Church (using 1/3 of the gym**)
Saturday October 20 - Fencing at the Church
Wednesday October 24 - NO Fencing
Thursday October 25 - Fencing at the Church (using 1/3 of the gym**)
Saturday October 27 - Fencing at the Church
Wednesday October 31 - Halloween - NO Fencing

Church fencing is at First United Methodist Church of Oviedo at 263 King Street, Oviedo 32765. It's next to Oviedo High School. If you are facing the church campus, the gym is in the back left of the campus.
