Girls Tennis Falls in FHSAA Regional Semifinals, 4–3
TMA varsity girls tennis battled hard in the program’s first-ever FHSAA regional semifinal appearance, falling 4–3 to The First Academy (Orlando) to close out a historic season.
TFA took an early 3–0 lead with wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles. Eighth grader Anelye Camacho helped shift momentum, winning at No. 4 singles in three sets. After dropping the first set, she rallied to defeat TFA junior—and previously unbeaten—Presley Sorenson, 2–6, 6–4, 10–2.
The final singles match lasted more than three hours, as sixth grader Clara Barnhart outlasted TFA senior Nikki Grady at No. 3 singles, 6–7 (5–7), 6–2, 10–6. Barnhart’s win brought the team score to 3–2 heading into doubles play.
At No. 1 doubles, TMA senior Amarelye Camacho and freshman Brie Gonzalez fought hard against TFA’s top team but ultimately fell, 5–3, 4–1. The victory clinched the overall match for TFA, with No. 2 doubles just underway and Barnhart and Anelye Camacho leading 1–0 in the first set.
TMA girls tennis finished the season as District Runner-Up and Regional Semifinalists with an 11–3 record—the best in school history. Barnhart and Anelye Camacho each went unbeaten in singles (16–0) and captured district championships. Barnhart also posted a 14–1 doubles record, while Camacho finished 6–0.
Freshman Lexie Adams recorded a standout season, going 11–5 in singles and 8–1 in doubles. Barnhart and Adams finished as district runner-up in No. 2 doubles. Gonzalez consistently faced top competition at No. 2 singles, finishing her first season with a 10–6 singles record and an 8–8 mark at No. 1 doubles.
