Teacher of the Week: Ms. O'Connor
This week's Teacher of the Week recognition goes to Ms. O'Connor, whose impact on students extends far beyond language instruction.
A parent recently shared a heartfelt message after his son unexpectedly opened up about school. His son described Ms. O'Connor as the "MOST GOATED Spanish teacher I've ever had." For those unfamiliar with student slang, "GOATED" is one of the highest compliments a student can give, meaning exceptional or the greatest of all time.
When asked why, his son explained that Ms. O'Connor makes every student feel valued and respected, regardless of background or family name. He shared that her classes are engaging, easy to follow, and keep students actively involved in learning. He also highlighted the thoughtful resources she provides, including both physical and online dictionaries, as well as a well-organized Canvas page that helps students stay on track.
Perhaps most meaningful was the context behind the compliment. His son has struggled to connect with Spanish classes in the past and has faced learning challenges due to medical factors. His parent expressed gratitude that Ms. O'Connor has reignited his interest in learning and helped make school a positive experience.
At Oviedo High School, we know that great teachers build relationships, create inclusive classrooms, and inspire students to believe in themselves. Ms. O'Connor exemplifies all of these qualities, and we are proud to celebrate the difference she is making in the lives of her students every day.
Congratulations, Ms. O'Connor, our Teacher of the Week!
