Lights, sirens, and lots of excitement! Our Kindergarten students enjoyed a special presentation this week from our School Resource Officer, complete with an up-close look at the police SUV and the equipment officers use while on duty. Along the way, they learned more about safety and how our SRO helps keep our St. Luke’s community safe each day!

This week's Teacher feature is Mrs. Kellie Putnam, one of our 3-year-old Preschool teachers, who is celebrating her second year at St. Luke’s. For Mrs. Putnam, one of the most rewarding parts of teaching is having a front-row seat as her students discover the world around them. She loves watching them explore, learn, and grow throughout the school year, especially as they discover the Outdoor Classroom. At the heart of her teaching is her faith. Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” The same faith shapes the advice she would give her students: always put God first and trust Him to lead you on the right path.

A lifelong learner herself, Mrs. Putnam earned her bachelor’s degree in computer science and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in early childhood development and education with a focus on applied behavior analysis. She looks forward to graduating in spring 2027. When she is not in the classroom or studying, Mrs. Putnam enjoys making memories with her family. She and her husband, Shawn, a professor at UCF, have been married for 13 years and have four children, all of whom attend St. Luke’s. Some of their favorite family activities include visiting Disney World and Epic Universe and going to the movies. Mrs. Putnam also enjoys relaxing at the spa and discovering new foods.

Mrs. Putnam’s love of new experiences has also taken her around the world. She has traveled to Japan, Thailand, Ireland, Norway, France, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. Mrs. Putnam brings her many experiences, love of learning, and strong faith into her preschool classroom. We are grateful to have Mrs. Putnam as part of the St. Luke’s family and to see the care and encouragement she pours into helping our youngest students learn and grow each day.

This week's Staff Feature is Mrs. Melissa Alba, one of our Preschool Teacher’s Aides, who is beginning her second year at St. Luke’s. Before joining St. Luke’s, Mrs. Alba spent 25 years as an occupational therapist. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Florida. A native Floridian, she enjoys spending time outdoors, especially paddleboarding, biking, hiking, and going to the beach. Her love of adventure has also taken her overseas, including hiking the Picos de Europa in Spain.

Mrs. Alba and her husband have been married for 31 years and have two adult daughters. Earlier this year, their family grew when their oldest daughter got married and they welcomed a son-in-law to the family. At St. Luke’s, one of Mrs. Alba’s favorite traditions is the weekly Preschool chapel service. She especially loves watching the children blow a kiss to Jesus at the end of chapel, a simple moment that reflects the personal connection they are developing with their faith.

Mrs. Alba’s favorite Bible verse is 1 John 4:19: “We love because He first loved us.” That message of love is also at the heart of what she values about being part of St. Luke’s. She appreciates the sense of peace that comes from working alongside others who share the same desire for students to know how deeply they are loved. While helping children grow developmentally and academically is important, Mrs. Alba believes nurturing their faith and surrounding them with Christ’s love is most important of all. St. Luke’s is grateful to have Mrs. Alba as part of our Preschool team and for the love, care, and faith she shares with our youngest Wildcats each day.
