IT'S HAPPENING... 🏈

LC Community-

Our Varsity Football team is headed west this week as Rocksprings ISD hosts the annual Hill Country Kickoff Classic at Angora Stadium. Yes, this trip is about playing a football game and kicking off the 2026 season, but it is also about much more than that.

It is hard for me to believe that we started six-man football at Leverett’s Chapel in the fall of 2005. Twenty-two seasons later, our young men are still getting the opportunity to put on the LC uniform and represent our school and community. Trips like this are part of what makes high school athletics special. Our players and coaches get to leave East Texas together, travel across our great state, experience something new, and compete against a team they would probably never have the opportunity to play otherwise. The time on the road, meals together, conversations, laughter, preparation, and competition all help build camaraderie and relationships. Those are the things these young men will remember long after the final score is forgotten.

Our Lions will take on Big Springs Charter School Saturday evening at 5:00 p.m. at Angora Stadium in Rocksprings.

Good luck to Coach Hughes, our coaches, and especially our young men as they begin the 2026 football season. Compete hard, represent LC well, enjoy the experience, and travel safely.

LC Community-

I want to take a minute to recognize our JH and HS Volleyball girls and Coach Mo for the work they are putting in each day. Having spent many years of my career as a coach, I understand that building a successful program is a process. It does not happen overnight, and success is not always measured by wins and losses. It starts with getting everyone to believe in what you are trying to accomplish, putting in the work, learning how to compete, and understanding that the team has to come before the individual.

I am proud of the way these girls are buying into the process and coming together as a team. How we conduct ourselves on and off the court matters. How we respond when things get tough matters. How we support our teammates matters. Those are the things that build the foundation of a successful program.

Our girls will have another opportunity to compete this week at the Overton Lady Mustang Tournament beginning tomorrow. Keep working, keep learning, and keep supporting one another.

Good luck this week, ladies! Keep it going, LC Volleyball!

LC Community-

A little hands-on science today at LC! Coach Mo’s 5th-grade science class studied density and how the density of an object affects whether it will sink or float. For today’s experiment, students used oranges to test what happened before and after removing the peel.

The students were able to see firsthand how changing an object can affect its density and buoyancy. It was a simple experiment, but a great way to take a science concept off the page and put it into action.

Great work, 5th grade!

Mrs. Smith’s 8th Grade Financial Literacy class has been working on some important real-world skills. Students recently participated in mock job interviews. Some even dressed up for the occasion. Their classmates conducted the interviews and then voted on who they would hire. They also worked through job applications and learned more about the interview process and how to present themselves when applying for a job.

The class also spent some time looking at the true cost of living in today’s world. Students thought about the lifestyle they would like to have in the future and what type of job and income it would take to support that lifestyle. I really like this type of learning for our students. It gives them a real-world look at the importance of preparing for life after high school. The decisions they make now about their education, work ethic, and future goals will matter down the road.

That focus and preparation does not start after graduation. It starts now.

Good Luck to Our Recent LC Graduates!

We want to wish all of our recent LC graduates who are heading off to college the very best as they begin classes. I know several have already moved into their dorms and are getting settled in for this next chapter. It is always exciting to see our kids leave LC and take that next step toward their future.

To our graduates, work hard, enjoy the experience, and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. We are proud of you, and there are a lot of people back home at LC who will continue to cheer you on.
