Once players understand the pattern or concept we’re trying to teach them, we like to build on it. In this case, we mean purposeful movement and communication:

Am I moving to be ready for my next pass? Am I directing others and demanding the ball when the time is right?

Building upon concepts and linking things together is how we structure our program: always building upwards and setting our players up to continue to grow.

It’s amazing when you can look back at patterns that were once the main focus of your workout, and now they’ve become your warmup as you progress into more advanced concepts.

Hip flip sprint starts are a staple in our program that are crucial for a number of reasons, the primary one being defensive footwork. From there, we like to progress these types of patterns into reactive games, passing, and finishing drills to add different components to players’ arsenal. This helps us tie together agility and off ball concepts with situations they’ll experience on the field, all at full speed.
