Playtime Music Academy offers joyful, engaging piano instruction for children through small group classes designed to support both musical growth and confidence. Our approach blends structure with creativity — helping kids learn to read music, listen carefully, and explore sound in a way that feels playful, steady, and encouraging. We believe music learning should feel accessible and meaningful, not pressured. Group Piano is our primary offering and is ideal for families looking for a consistent weekly rhythm where children learn alongside peers in a supportive environment. A limited number of private lessons are available by request. Playtime Music Academy is located in Overland Park, Kansas and serves families throughout the Kansas City metro area.

And just like that…we’re back. 🎹✨

Our first week of lessons is officially in the books.

There were new classes, new music, new ensembles, new routines—and plenty of moments where someone had to try something they couldn’t quite do yet.

Which is exactly where this year’s theme begins:

**PLAY WITH COURAGE.**

Because courage in music doesn’t usually look like being fearless.

Sometimes it looks like playing the first note.

Trying again.

Joining the ensemble before you’re completely sure of your part.

Letting something sound a little messy while you’re learning it.

Or saying, “I don’t know how to do this yet”—and then discovering that you can learn.

This year at Playtime Music Academy, we’re practicing more than music.

We’re practicing what it feels like to meet something unfamiliar with curiosity, persistence, and courage.

The music and performances were fantastic!!! So incredibly proud that I get to teach this group of musicians! But even more than the great performances I hope parents noticed more than the notes at our spring recital. 💖✨

I hope you saw:
– the courage it took to walk on stage
– the focus it took to keep going
– the resilience when something didn’t go exactly as planned

Because that’s what this is really about.

Music is the vehicle…but what they’re building goes far beyond the piano.

And that’s something worth celebrating. So very very proud of all these amazing musicians. Grateful for this work, these families, and the music. 💛

This is what real practice looks like before a recital 💖✨

It’s not always smooth.

– slowing things down
– stopping and fixing
– trying again
– working through one small section at a time

This is where the growth actually happens.

My heart is still glowing from our Christmas Recital. 🎄🎹✨
The courage, the creativity, the deep breaths before the first note… every moment was a reminder of why I love this work.

One of my favorite details from the night?
All the sparkly shoes. ✨
Little shoes, big shoes — even mine!

Because recitals are really about first steps.
The brave walk to the piano.
The choice to try.
The moment a child realizes, “I can do this.”

Recitals aren’t about perfection — they’re about brave little people sharing something they’ve worked so hard to create.
