While most people spent their Sunday relaxing, members of the JCCC Police Department were pulling more than their weight for a good cause at the Heroes Pull event benefiting Special Olympics Kansas.

The challenge? Each team raced to pull two different vehicles, each weighing approximately 30,000 pounds, as quickly as possible.

The bigger goal? Raising money for Special Olympics athletes. Since 2012, the event has raised more than $65,000 to support athletes across the state. We’re proud of our officers for getting involved in such a meaningful community event!

This semester, students can look forward to new opportunities to explore their interests and access support to help reach their goals.

From AI and meteorology to hands-on tropical study-away experiences, JCCC is bringing new ideas and opportunities to campus this fall. New and expanded courses also give students the chance to build practical skills, explore new interests, and prepare for success in college and beyond.

JCCC is also continuing to evolve its support services to meet students’ changing needs. Students have access to a wide range of free resources, including personal, academic and career counseling, the Student Basic Needs Center and tutoring in all subjects through the Academic Resource Center.

We’re excited for all that’s ahead this semester, from physical expansion on campus to continued efforts to advance student success, meet workforce needs, and strengthen partnerships throughout Johnson County. Read more about what’s new at JCCC this fall: https://ow.ly/4bwp50ZNxws

Student Andrew Eveloff is leaving a lasting legacy for students with disabilities at JCCC.

Andrew, who lived with congenital muscular dystrophy, found more than coursework at JCCC. He found a community where he was treated with respect and dignity.

Inspired by their son's experience, his family established the Andrew Eveloff Memorial Scholarship Fund to support future students with disabilities at JCCC. The fund plans to support five students each year, carrying Andrew’s impact forward for years to come. Read more from KCTV5 News Kansas City:

In remembrance of September 11, 2001, JCCC Fire Science Program students and faculty suited up in full gear this week and climbed the stairs of the Galileo's Pavilion Parking Garage to honor the lives lost and the first responders who answered the call that day.

The four-story garage became a place of reflection as participants made nearly 28 trips up and down the stairs, symbolically reaching the equivalent of the 110 floors firefighters ascended in the World Trade Center towers. Through this act of remembrance, these future first responders honored the legacy of those who served and ensured their heroism is never forgotten.

Last week, hundreds of people came together for the Johnson County Community College Foundation Scholarship Luncheon to celebrate stories of generosity, hope, and student success.

Scholarship recipients shared personal experiences of resilience and gratitude for those who have helped make their academic dreams possible. For many students, a scholarship means more than just financial support. It can ease the burden of paying for college and create opportunities that might otherwise have felt out of reach.

Behind every scholarship is a donor who chose to invest in a student’s future. We’re grateful to everyone who makes this support possible.
