A new approach to math is helping more Kansas students succeed.

Recognizing that College Algebra isn't the best fit for every student's academic and career goals, JCCC faculty helped lead a statewide effort to rethink college math requirements. The result? Kansas Math Pathways, a new model that places students into one of three gateway math courses, Contemporary Mathematics, Statistics, or College Algebra, based on their field of study.

Co-chaired by JCCC Associate Professor of Mathematics Whitney Turner, the initiative is designed to better prepare students for success while removing unnecessary barriers to degree completion.

As more data becomes available, Math Pathways is showing promise in helping ensure math serves as a foundation for opportunity, not an obstacle. Read more from The League for Innovation in the Community College:

From JCCC to the MLB! Congratulations to three JCCC baseball players who were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft held Sunday in Philadelphia! ⚾️

Right-handed pitcher Austin Berggren (Olathe East) was selected in the 15th round by the New York Yankees, right-handed pitcher Victor Christal (Bishop Miege) went in the 16th round to the Cincinnati Reds, and right-handed pitcher Anson Seibert (Blue Valley Southwest) was selected in the 20th round by the Washington Nationals.

JCCC's Registered Nursing program is one of the most competitive in Kansas—and it’s easy to see why. Ranked the No. 2 nursing school in Kansas for 2026, the program also achieved an impressive 93%–100% NCLEX pass rate between 2022 and 2024.

Beginning in Spring 2027, JCCC will expand access to the program by offering both fall and spring entry points, allowing more students to start their nursing education sooner while helping meet the region's growing demand for nurses.
