UNDER THE LIGHTS

One night. One big rivalry. One special feeder game.

Wednesday night, our Cougars took on Pleasant Ridge under the lights at Blue Valley West, with current West football players, many of them Lakewood alumni, sitting on the sidelines to support their former school, and our cheerleaders helping make the night feel even more special.

After the game, Blue Valley West Head Coach came out to talk with both teams and welcome them to what’s ahead at West.

That’s what makes this night special.

A LAKEWOOD TRADITION

Wednesday was feeder game night at Blue Valley West.

Our Lakewood volleyball teams took on Pleasant Ridge across 2 courts in the main gym, with all 4 teams playing.

One of the best parts is getting to see Blue Valley West volleyball coaches and players in the gym supporting the next group of Cougars and Bulldogs who will eventually join them at West.

A pretty special Lakewood tradition!

RUNNING WITH THE BEST

Lakewood Cross Country took on the City Meet tonight, competing alongside more than 1,400 runners from 30+ schools across the metro.

And our Cougars showed up BIG!

Elise took 1st in the Gold Race AND broke the course record, while Myra finished 8th out of hundreds of runners!

Hot temps, muddy conditions, and a whole lot of miles. These Cougars are putting in the work.

ELA IN MOTION: CREATIVITY TAKES THE WHEEL

Our 8th graders are getting creative in ELA, using their imaginations and photo editing skills to transport themselves back in time to Route 66!

A little creativity, a little silliness, and a whole lot of engagement.

FIRST SERVE. BIG ENERGY.

Girls volleyball kicked off the season tonight as our Cougars hosted Wolf Springs at Lakewood!

Our students brought the NOISE! One of the loudest volleyball crowds we’ve ever had.

Welcome to the league, Wolf Springs! Wolf Springs Middle

HOW DO YOU MAKE THE PERFECT PIECE OF TOAST?

Our 6th graders are learning that sometimes the simplest tasks require some pretty complex thinking.

Today, they put their own flowcharts and algorithms to the test, giving step-by-step instructions and adjusting their thinking based on the results.

Precision. Problem-solving. Collaboration. A little trial and error.

And yes… they got to eat the toast!

FIST BUMP FRIDAY!
We made it through our first full week! A few extra staff members and some of our volleyball girls joined us this morning to greet students with music, fist bumps, and a little extra Friday energy. Sometimes you don’t need a reason to celebrate…you just do it!

THE LAKEWOOD ESSENTIAL SERIES - 03 - FUN

Middle school is important. There’s learning to do, challenges to face, and plenty of hard work along the way.

But it should also be FUN.

Sometimes that means stepping outside your comfort zone, trying something new, laughing at yourself, and being willing to have a little FUN.

That’s exactly what our staff did with a surprise flash mob on the first day of school.

We wanted to kick off the year with FUN, but also show our students that it’s okay to let loose, laugh at yourself, and enjoy the moments along the way.

FUN is essential.

THE LAKEWOOD ESSENTIAL SERIES - 02 - CONNECTION

Middle school can feel like a big step. New school. New teachers. New faces. A lot of new.

So, during their first week at Lakewood, every single 6th grader received a handwritten postcard from a member of our staff.

A simple note to say, “Welcome to Lakewood. We’re glad you’re here. You belong here.”

Sometimes, something that simple can make a big difference.

Nash and Evie shared how receiving a handwritten postcard helped them feel more welcomed, comfortable, and ready to start their Lakewood journey.

Because CONNECTION starts with making people feel seen, known, and welcomed.

CONNECTION is essential.
