Meet Nick May, KCYCM’s new Artistic Director!

Saxophonist Nick May maintains a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, and guest lecturer; collaborating with numerous colleagues across the country and abroad. He manages the Music Academy of Kansas City and is the founder of the I Exist Project.

Meet Maya Tuylieva, KCYCM’s new President!

Dr. Maya Tuylieva is an internationally recognized pianist, known for her compelling performances on prestigious stages worldwide, including Carnegie Hall. A winner of numerous competitions, she is also the founder of the Music Academy in Kansas City, where she mentors the next generation of young artists.

A bittersweet announcement: KCYCM Director, Nicholas Dold steps down.

After two years of leading the Kansas City Young Chamber Musicians, Nicholas Dold has formally stepped down from his role as Director to accept a new appointment at Michigan State University.

"Establishing and leading KCYCM for these past two years has been an incredible honor! I am deeply grateful to our students, faculty, and families for making this program the success that it is today. We've led the way by showing Kansas City how much our young musicians want to play chamber music and collaborate with their peers. I look forward to the future of KCYCM with its new leadership and cannot wait to see the continued impact it makes on this great city."

We are proud of the great things our KCYCM alumni and partnering teachers are doing in the community!

Michael Ciccarelli and his teacher, Kimberly Katz, would like to extend their deepest thanks to the Kansas City Music Teachers Association for the opportunities that have been provided for him to learn, grow, and perform in his study of music. Listed below are some of the achievements Michael has attained this past year.

Michael was awarded the winner of 10th grade Missouri Music Teachers Association State Piano Competition on November 10th at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Michael participated in the KCMTA’s Master Lessons and was invited by Dr. Xiting Yang, Master Teacher, to perform at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville to perform in a Masterclass given by world-renowned piano teacher and concert artist Dr. Logan Skelton on October 26th.

Michael auditioned and was selected to perform in a Masterclass on September 28th given by Christina and Michelle Naughton, duo concert pianists, at the first joint conference for the Kansas and Missouri Music Teachers Association, held at the UMKC Conservatory of Music in White Hall.

Michael auditioned for and was selected by KCMTA member Nicholas Dold, Director of the Kansas City Young Chamber Musicians, to join the senior group of advanced high school students who rehearsed for an 11-week session and performed Poulenc’s Trio for Oboe, Cello and Piano on March 30th at Music Academy of Kansas City.
