Our MLT students volunteered to swab each other’s throats and then made direct smears from the swabs to look under the microscope for bacteria they could identify.

Mercy Health has openings in multiple locations, with a variety of shifts and schedules, providing options for candidates at different stages of their careers and with different scheduling preferences.
These roles offer the opportunity to work across laboratory areas including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, and microbiology, while gaining hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation, quality control, troubleshooting, specimen collection, and testing procedures. The positions also provide opportunities to participate in training, method and instrument evaluations, and maintaining competency in current and newly implemented laboratory methods.

Learning is always more fun when students can learn from each other!

This week our students worked together on laboratory math, learning a different way of approaching problems than the method Mrs. Nikki teaches. It was great to watch them explain their thinking to each other and help one another work through the calculations!

They also spent time practicing blood draws on each other as they work toward completing their required number of successful draws. Once they get more comfortable and confident, they’ll begin bringing in guests to help them reach their required successful draws.

Lots of practice, teamwork, and a little bit of nervousness along the way—but that’s all part of becoming confident in the lab!

Exciting things are happening in Clinical Laboratory Science!

Our 2nd-year MLT students recently unboxed our brand-new VR headsets and have been busy getting them set up and ready for lab use.

Soon, our students will be able to use these headsets to access interactive phlebotomy and laboratory programs where they can practice and experience procedures in real time—bringing a whole new level of hands-on learning into the classroom!

We are so excited to see how this technology will enhance our students’ learning and help prepare them for their future careers in the laboratory!
