Since 2016, many a freshmen have cut their teeth at Snow Mountain Ranch in their first overnight FFA trip. Despite the rain, this year didn’t disappoint. We’re thankful for sunrise hikes and pick-up volleyball games and painting parties and s’mores and shared meals and cold nights under the stars. It sure is fun to stay at the YMCA!

Cheers to year 10 (plus one rough year at Lake Mac during COVID)! 🤓

Whether you dined with us in 2024 and 2025 and still think fondly of that summer evening, if you are ready for a "date-night" with some seafood and locally grown sides, or just have a fear of missing out, we have a deal for you! It's time to buy your tickets for the 2026 Lone Star FFA Cajun Boil! Tickets are limited to just 100 people, so it's guaranteed to be a great time in the old red barn at Old Threshers in Yuma. The meal and live music will start at 6, followed by a dessert auction.

Tickets are available for purchase (great deal at $35 each) from the students attending National Convention this year (listed below), or email Saralynn Vetter if you don't know anyone else. Tables are also available for purchase, but ticket sales will close on September 22nd, or sooner if tickets sell out.

Also, because of the generosity of Channel Seed (Regional manager Ron Robinson and salesman Mike Anderson), we will be auctioning off 2 tickets to the Denver Broncos/Las Vegas Raiders game on Sunday, November 22nd that evening!

If you want to support two great causes and fuel up at the same time, come join us next weekend for Old Threshers in Yuma just west of the fairgrounds! We’ve formed a new partnership and we can’t wait to serve you.

Lone Star FFA members will be hosting the food booth for lunches, dinners, and “in-between” snacks. Whether you are craving a few pieces of pie, homemade ice cream, a loaded (crispy) baked potato, or a cherry limeade, we got you!

One of the best parts of being an ag teacher is the miles spent in the pickup doing visits with kids over the summer. Whether they are raising vegetables or raising goats, cutting wheat or cutting hair, welding or mowing, these Lone Star aggies are getting their hands dirty and learning how to WORK!

Thanks to everyone that let me visit, and if I missed you, it’s not too late for an SAE visit!

In an effort to keep everybody informed, we are publishing our list of dates (as they stand today) for the coming school year. We would like to tag Kara Weathers even though her kids have all flown the coop 🙂

Although the list looks quite long, keep in mind that many of these activities are grade-specific and includes permission slip due-dates too! Printed copies of the schedule will also be available in the ag room once school starts.

In the last chapter of ringside action, we bring you some Lone Star Aggies (and a few younger siblings) from the Yuma and Logan county fairs. We see you mentoring the younger 4H members when you think no-one Is watching 🤓

PS, so many thanks to everyone who makes these events happen behind the scenes, and shoutout to Jeremy Weathers for the endless hours he spent broadcasting livestock shows so family and friends could be part of the action!

What the crowd sees is five minutes in the ring, but what they don’t see are the 5:30 early mornings and the 10:30 late nights spent in the barn this summer. If you strip away all the ribbons, you’re going to find a core group of kids with enough grit to do hard things. With that said, congrats to our first round of Lone Star Aggies (and a few younger siblings)!
