Our KAY Club students were asked at the last minute to help at the Unified Special Olympics Golf event in Pittsburg today. The first part of the day, they cheered on the athletes playing golf, and the second half, they helped the adults compete in miniature golf. It was a scorcher, but you couldn’t tell by the way our students worked. Special Olympics is one of those things that you need to see in person to truly understand the impact that a volunteer can make in a life. Our students do a wonderful job of making these athletes feel valued and important, and this is why Oswego is asked to help when there is a need. These life lessons such as compassion, kindness, patience, and inclusion are skills that can sometimes be better learned in other settings outside of the classroom. People from the state Special Olympics commented about how kind, considerate, and respectful our students were to everyone. That is pretty impressive!! As always, it’s a great day to be an Indian!
