What happens when Southern gender expectations meet cartoons, kitsch, “girly things,” and a deviled egg dish from a Sunday School dinner? John Michael Byrd’s work brings q***r identity, childhood nostalgia, and southern-ness into collision—where contradictions don’t cancel out, they connect, often with humor.

She Is on Her Way is an intersectional feminist exhibition exploring femininity across gender, race, age, q***rness, and lived experience through diverse artistic practices.
