What a special project this was. ❤️

Through our instrument donation program at Mike Risko Music, we always try to get instruments playing again and into someone else’s hands. But some are beyond repair, and we’ve never liked the idea of simply throwing them away.

Second Act gave those instruments a whole new life. Working with the Ossining Arts Council and seeing what the artists created was incredible. Each piece was so different, with so much imagination and care behind it.

Sunday’s silent auction was an evening full of art, conversation, and community—and such a great vibe! We loved seeing people come together, connect with the artists, enjoy the artwork, and support the Ossining Arts Council and the Ossining Food Pantry. Having all that creativity and energy fill our space made it even more special.

Thank you to the artists, everyone who helped bring this together, and everyone who joined us. What a wonderful group of people to work with. We’re so grateful to have been part of this and can’t wait to do more together! Ossining is such a special place filled with so many incredible people! ❤️

A big thank you to Westchester Magazine for featuring Mike and Miriam Risko as two of the 25 influential county residents in its October anniversary issue, “The Powers That Be.”

Mike and Miriam are humbled to be included in this group alongside Bill and Hillary Clinton, Martha Stewart, Ken Jenkins, and so many people whose work has made such a difference across Westchester.

They opened Mike Risko Music 30 years ago because they wanted to share their love of music. Today, the music school and store is a place where people of all ages come to learn, play, and find their own connection to music. Mike and Miriam are so proud of what they’ve built and grateful to everyone who has trusted them with their musical journey and supported them along the way.

They both grew up in Westchester, love it here, and look forward to helping more people make music for years to come.

The October issue is out on newsstands if you’d like to see the whole feature. Congratulations to Westchester Magazine on 25 years of sharing the people, places, and stories of Westchester! ❤️🎶

Instruments from Mike Risko Music’s donation program have become works of art—and they’re going up for auction for a great cause! 🎸🎨

Our instrument donation program has brought music to many people over the years. Some instruments, though, arrive beyond repair. For Second Act: The 2026 OAC Challenge, we provided 15 of those instruments, and the Ossining Arts Council brought together local artists to give them a new life.

Come see the finished pieces and bid on your favorites Sunday, October 4, from 6–8 pm at Mike Risko Music, 144 Upper Croton Avenue in Ossining. Bidding closes at 7:30 pm. Proceeds will be split between the Ossining Food Pantry and the Ossining Arts Council.

It’s wonderful to see this collaboration featured in the paper. We hope you’ll join us! 💛

We love bringing music industry professionals into Mike Risko Music so our students can hear firsthand about the many ways people build careers in music.

David Gottlieb joined us to talk about the business side of the industry. Over his 40-year career, he’s worked at Epic Records, helped market artists including Pearl Jam, Alice Cooper and Celine Dion, and founded the artist management company Death Or Glory.

Our students got to hear his stories and ask questions about a side of music they don’t often get to see. Thank you for spending time with us, David! 🎶

Stay tuned for more on our music industry series!

Every instrument has a story—and sometimes its next chapter isn’t music, but art.

Through the Mike Risko Music Instrument Donation Program, we collect gently used instruments and place those that can still be played with individuals and organizations that can give them new musical lives. Occasionally, an instrument is simply too damaged to be repaired or played again. Rather than discard those instruments, we saved them, hoping they could be given a different kind of second chance.

That became the inspiration for “Second Act.” Local artists at the Ossining Arts Council transformed these instruments into one-of-a-kind works of art, giving each one an entirely new purpose.

Now we’re excited to host the Ossining Arts Council’s “Second Act: The 2026 OAC Challenge Show” at Mike Risko Music. The artwork will be auctioned, with proceeds split equally between the Ossining Arts Council and the Ossining Food Pantry.

This is such a special combination of music, art and community—and everyone is invited to come see these incredible creations!
