What's the first thing I do in someone else's kitchen? - https://mailchi.mp/teachingtable/saltpig
In my own kitchen, I keep a salt pig and provide small dishes filled with kosher salt to each cooking group, ensuring they have pinchable salt available. In an unfamiliar kitchen, I typically grab a ramekin or small bowl and fill it with salt. This simple practice makes a significant difference when cooking like a chef.

Register for September and October Classes - https://mailchi.mp/teachingtable/fallpreview-12852779 Currently offering a wide variety of options and time slots, which will narrow down as you register and indicate preferences! If there's something you like, be sure to grab it!
Since it seems that nearly every newsletter I subscribe to has flooded my inbox with recipes featuring tomatoes and corn this week, I thought it would be negligent, as your seasonal farm-to-table chef, not to do the same. My favorite recipes for peak summer produce.

Fall Preview - https://mailchi.mp/teachingtable/fallpreview
At the height of summer, it can be difficult to think about fall. We’re savoring these long, sunny days, firefly-lit midsummer nights, and the comfort of sundresses and Crocs. Upcoming fall calendars threaten this loose vibe like a necktie. Planning beyond Labor Day is nearly impossible (and I've tried).

But some prefer to plan ahead and book early! Teaching Table's early fall class schedule is coming soon!

Reflections from Culinary Camp - https://mailchi.mp/teachingtable/reflectionsfromcamp
I'm back from overnight camp, where I had the wonderful opportunity to teach baking and cooking. My boys have also been away at summer camp, and every summer, I can’t help but feel a little envious of their camp experiences. I'm thrilled that I finally got to have my own!

Here are some reflections from my time at Culinary Sleep Away Camp:

- Time moves more slowly at camp, yet the session flew by.

A Love Letter to Asparagus - https://mailchi.mp/teachingtable/lovelettertoasparagus
Asparagus always catches my eye at the farmers' market. With a little less romanticism and a greater abundance than ramps, I can’t help myself and always buy fresh, local asparagus when I see it— even if I don’t have a specific plan for it. I know I’ll figure out a way to enjoy it. If you’ve also purchased asparagus lately, this email is for you, filled with recipes featuring asparagus.

The Natural Gourmet Institute taught me three simple plant-based gluten-free methods for thickening nearly any soup: potatoes, oats, and short-grain rice. Yes, you read that correctly—short-grain rice! Learn how to make a “Cream” of Asparagus (or carrot or cauliflower or broccoli) Soup without...

How I Cook Every Night Without Going to the Store - https://mailchi.mp/teachingtable/howicookwithoutshopping
This week, for the first time, I weighed the cost of my usual longer trip to Trader Joe's (thank you, off-the-charts gas prices) against the savings from their relatively lower food prices. I opted for a quicker trip to a nearby store for slightly higher-priced ingredients.
Regardless, I am also well-equipped for cooking without frequent trips to the store. Here are a few elements of my strategy to cook more while shopping less.

Find your Balance and Edible Plants - https://mailchi.mp/teachingtable/findyourbalance. It’s been a quieter couple of weeks here at the Teaching Table. If you attended one of our noisy, boisterous classes this past weekend, you might not agree, lol! Indeed, we usually experience a slowdown after the winter bustle at this time of year. Like my students, I’m getting outside more and have caught up some on a lot of much-needed yard work. Before weeding out everything, I’ve been using my Seek app to...
